DNC goes on the offence: Path to 9/11

-------- Original Message --------
Subject: That 9/11 propaganda ...

The Democratic Party

Dear xxxx,
Over 250,000 Democrats sent letters to ABC, provoking a firestorm of controversy that tanked the company's right-wing propaganda film about 9/11. This mobilization was part of a new attitude for the Democratic Party. We are not going to be pushed around, spun, or defamed by right-wing extremists or those who they use to disseminate their propaganda. So we're going to go on the offense -- will you make a donation to help fund the plan?

Contribute Now

Did you know that over a quarter million people like you sent letters to the ABC network about the right-wing 9/11 propaganda film they aired?

This powerful showing by Democrats who refuse to be duped or smeared created a firestorm of controversy ABC.

It drove down ratings, mangled their promotions and gave their leadership one serious headache -- a stark lesson that will make television executives think twice about becoming vehicles for propaganda and outright false claims about Democrats.

This mobilization was part of a new attitude for the Democratic Party.

We're sick of playing defense against a Republican leadership that thinks nothing of using the national security issue in the game of political partisanship. We are not going to be pushed around, spun, or defamed by right-wing extremists or those whom they use to disseminate their propaganda.

So we're going to go on the offense -- telling the truth and never backing down against the smear tactics of those who have failed to make our country safer.

We have a plan to take that message to voters between now and Election Day with person-to-person outreach in all 50 states. We have staff on the ground ready to take a strong Democratic security message to voters -- supporting candidates up and down the ballot and spreading the word that it's time for a change.

We're going to fight for the Democratic vision on national security -- will you make a donation to help fund the plan?

http://www.democrats.org/playoffense

Democrats everywhere are committed to making sure that the history written about 2006 will be that truth and hope conquered fear.

It will be remembered as the time when people stood up, spoke out, and righted our course. You can be part of making that happen right now by making your donation:

http://www.democrats.org/playoffense

We have a fundamentally different vision for our security than the Party of Bush. We want a new direction in Iraq, more competent security at home, and the restoration of America's moral leadership in the world.

They failed to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, and five years after September 11th he still lives to taunt Americans.

They squandered America's moral authority and global leadership by launching a war of choice in Iraq instead of fighting the war on al Qaeda.

The calls of the 9/11 Commission Report and Hurricane Katrina simply did not awaken Republican leaders to our continuing vulnerabilities at home.

We've had enough, and we're going to run an honest campaign about the security of our country. People are smart and are ready for real leadership -- will you make a donation right now to help get the message out?

http://www.democrats.org/playoffense

People already trust Democrats more when it comes to national security. In recent CBS News and ABC News polls, more people trust Democrats to make the right decisions on Iraq. And in the latest Newsweek poll, nearly two-thirds of Americans agree that the war in Iraq has not made us safer from terrorism.

Meanwhile, as Iraq descends into civil war and becomes a new training ground for international terrorists, cargo coming into our country still isn't being inspected and Osama bin Laden continues to remain free roaming around northwest Pakistan -- taunting Americans five years after the tragic events of September 11th.

We're strong, we're right, and the people know it. Now let's get our message our to voters in all 50 states. Can you donate to help make it happen?

http://www.democrats.org/playoffense

Republicans have won two elections since 9/11 by instilling fear in people, and they're trying to do it again this year.

But it's not going to work. The President's foreign policies have failed. Iraq is sliding into civil war. Iran and North Korea are more dangerous than they were five and a half years ago. And a Taliban resurgence poses new threats in Afghanistan.

People have had enough. This administration cannot be trusted with our security.

Democrats are going to reclaim American leadership with a tough, smart plan to transform failed policies in Iraq, the Middle East and around the world.

We will increase the size of Special Forces to destroy Osama Bin Laden and terrorist networks like al Qaeda.

We will implement the bipartisan 9/11 Commission proposal to secure America's borders and ports and screen every container.

And we will fully man, train, and equip our National Guard and our police, firefighters and other first responders.

Let's get this message out to Americans who need to hear it:

http://www.democrats.org/playoffense

When it comes to national security, the Republicans have not led.

We will.

Thank you,
Tom

Tom McMahon
Executive Director
Democratic National Committee

P.S. -- We are spending $8 billion a month in Iraq. That's $2 billion each week, $267 million each day, or $11 million each hour. For what we spend in three weeks in Iraq, we could make needed improvements in order to properly secure our public transportation systems. For what we spend in five days, we could put radiation detectors in all of our ports. And for two days in Iraq, we could screen all air cargo.

Can you donate to help make those things happen?

4. You might not have been here, but petitions were circulating
long before the movie aired, letters were written, etc. I don't think they were slow at all.

7. I think that post was referring to slow on the mark
in fighting back and not taking it from Republicans who drum up fear. I do not think that the post in question is addressing "slow off the mark" in reference to this P2911 film.

9. If so, my mistake. The OP was posting about P2911, so I
figured this was a response to it.

13. I was referring to the party officially commenting on it
I saw plenty going on here and coming from individual dems and groups of dems (I sent close to ten emails myself), but I didn't see anything from the party as a whole. If I missed it, my bad.

15. You're right
The response to PT911 started on DU and the blogs. It took a couple of days for the pols to catch on. Now they are making it sound like they organized it.

involved. FWIW, I remember signing this petition, and know there were many threads flying about it.

2. Meanwhile, an issue seemingly oblivious to the Democrats...
...ELECTION FRAUD.

Without honest elections, nothing else matters. And more people will be voting in November on electronic machines, that have been demonstrated time and time again to be inaccurate and capable of manipulation.

What is going to be done about this between now and November? Without honest elections, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

3. Why does every communication from my party beg me for money?
I feel like the only thing they care about is my wallet. I'm glad they say they're going to fight, but I'd believe it a bit more if it didn't come tagged with the same plea for filthy lucre that *every* email from a Democrat seems to have.

*le sigh*

account of $60 million on smears between now and election day. The DNC has plans to spend $12 million in that time frame.

This is not the type of war which you can go out and shoot the enemy. But it is a war and in all wars manpower and resources are woefully needed.

22. Because ..
... money wins elections. One dollar - one vote. It takes money to run ads, money to file lawsuits, money to do anything. I know it gets tedious, and folks who can't afford to help needn't worry about it.

But those of us who can send a few bucks now and then are fulfilling a vital need - it takes money to promote anything!

6. Well, I see your nice thread has already been spit upon.
So I recommended it. I am proud of the way that Dean and the DNC are trying to fight so hard, while not being able to set any policy without getting their little hands spanked

I am on my way to donate right now.

8. Well, I hope you don't think my comment was 'spitting' on the OP!
I certainly didn't mean it like that. I should reiterate, I'm glad that the DNC says they're fighting. It's just that I'd rather be treated like a member of the party rather than a customer (ie, a fat wallet).

That is the goal of the DNC with Dean as chairman. To turn the party back over to the people.

19. I never got this email
I did get one today about the 50 State Turnout that starts on October 7. But I never got the fundraising one from Tom McMahon. Odd.

But I donated again anyway.

http://www.democrats.org/a/party/a_50_state_strategy/50_state_turnout/

I am going to call our state party about this Oct. 7 event, because they have not even mentioned the other 50 State events.

They said at a conference they don't like the 50 state strategy. Well many of us do, and they should at least mention these turnout events.

Seriously --- it makes their job much easier if they have more than one alert on the disgusting SPAM like Liblifer is sending.

Just hit the ALERT button and in the comments tell them you're reporting spam.
