Kerry appeals for Donations to VoteVets to run powerful new ads
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 08:30 PM by TayTay
Sen. Kerry attached a plea for people to donate to the VoteVets.org site yesterday in an e-mail to his subscriber list. He penned an article for the Huffington Post today that fills in a little more details on who is running VoteVets and what it means.

A snippet from the HuffPo article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-kerry/a-friend-of-mine-jon-sol_b_29364.html?view=print

And that's why I want to introduce you to Jon today -- to let everyone know about his latest battle. Jon is the head of a terrific group called VoteVets.org whose mission it is to not only get young Iraq and Afghanistan combat veterans like Patrick Murphy elected but also to hold our nation's leaders accountable for the decisions they make that impact our soldiers, their families and our veterans. Politicians should have to answer to veterans, not just try to use them as backdrops to speeches. Jon and his group have worked incredibly hard and they're going to keep fighting right up to November 7th and for a long time after that. I'm hoping you'll consider joining them on their mission. Please visit their site for more information, of if you would like to support them with their mission by donating, please https://contribute.keepingamericaspromise.com/s10a.html?sc=huffpo">click here.

There seem to be a lot of very good Democrats involved in this effort, including Gen Clark, who knows what it means to deploy to really support our troops.

I have to say, I love this group. I hope these people are heard because it is extremely powerful to have veterans who have been over in Iraq tell what it is really like and how the Bush Administration and their Republican enablers in the Congress have deserted the troops in some many crucial areas.

2. And again, Gen. Clark is on the Advisory Board for this group
and I heartily and completely applaud him for doing this. He knows what it's like to command troops in a time of war and how important it is that we do whatever we can to protect the life and limbs of the people we send to war.

I want to list all the Democrats who are involved in this effort. I love this ad and I love the in-your-face nature of it. So hats off to Gen. Clark and to Paul Hackett and to Max Cleland who helped on this.

4. Cleland, Clark, and Kerry haven't stopped working to change the view
of so many that the GOPs own the military issue.

It's just never been true.

If it were true, the GOPs wouldn't have had to work so hard to buy control of the media that spins their lies for them. The truth would have been enough. But, it's NOT true, and the Dems had to find alternative methods to set the facts straight.

Bless 'em from here to eternity, but those men have been tireless in working up ways to cut through the lies - Fighting Dems, Patriot Project, VoteVets.

I wish the Dem party had an infrastructure that worked to develop groups like this after 2000.

10. They learned - don't depend on party infrastructure - build your own
infrastructure and HELP strengthen the party at the same time.
