AP: Frist Targets Internet Gambling
Frist Targets Internet Gambling

By NANCY ZUCKERBROD
The Associated Press
Wednesday, September 13, 2006; 7:51 PM

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is trying use a bill
authorizing U.S. military operations, including in Iraq and Afghanistan,
to prohibit people from using credit cards to settle Internet gambling
debts.

Frist, R-Tenn., and his aides have been meeting with other lawmakers
and officials in both the House and Senate to get the measure attached
to a compromise Defense Department authorization bill, according to a
Senate GOP leadership aide.

The House passed a version of the Internet gambling measure in July,
but the Senate has taken no action on similar legislation. Neither
of the defense bills passed by the House and Senate mention it.

Frist, eyeing a 2008 presidential bid, recently discussed the online
gambling measure in the politically important state of Iowa. He also
called it a legislative priority in a recent speech on the Senate floor.

1. Now that's important. The US is going to hell in a handbasket
and Frist is targeting internet gambling?

2. Yeah, people trying to relieve the grinding monotony...
...of life under Bush by putting a few bucks on a horse; that's the real danger America faces. Better pull out all the stops to ban working stiffs from having a flutter on a football game or two. That'll fix what ails us, all right.

How can we convince Frist to do medical experiments on himself?

4. Of all of the stuff going on?

How is this even on the radar? Because Republicans don't know how to govern.

And one more thing. Democrats should run a national ad detailing all the bullshit that this republican congress has been wasting time on.

7. That's bad news for me

There were only 10 days left and no one anticipated the bill would be atttached to something else. There didn't seem to be a logical candidate for attachment and this damn sure isn't but Frist is enough of an asshole to use it.

Earlier today I saw odds of roughly 5/1 against this bill passing. I'm sure that's changed now.

Not nearly as bad as the House bill but an annoyance. As long as I'm allowed to cash checks from the offshore sportsbooks. You can always find ways to get money to them.
