13. here's a website with some early returns ..
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 08:36 PM by welshTerrier2
Channel 12 out of Providence is reporting that with about 27% of the votes counted, Chafee leads Laffey with 54% of the vote ...

The actual vote counts were: Chafee - 10,033, Laffey - 8577 ...

here's a link to their website: http://wpri.conversent.net/election.html

15. Yup, got it!
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 09:13 PM by Tellurian
The mayors race in our town is a hotly contested race.

My phone's been ringing off the hook!

Sheldon got 83% of the vote..

Looks like Chafee is going to win by a hair...of course theres absentees
and no doubt Laffey will ask for a recount.

Langevin, looks like a win. too bad on that..

I'll re edit and post more as resuts are solid.

I have it live here..

They are still holding out on Langevin w/56% reporting..

Chafee pulling away from Laffey..

17. Chaffee 53, Laffey 47... 346/515 precincts in.
Don't know where the votes are coming from, though.

Mydd.com reports terrible turnout in RI... unfortunately, that's good news for Chafee.

22. Whitehouse came out strong earlier
in the evening...bashing the Republican agenda and making it clear, in plain talk,
every Republican has got to be replaced this November and take our country back!

21. The turnout for the GOP side is very high
Our primary has the terrible turnout. Not a great sign for November. This Rhode Island senate race was basically the only statewide GOP test in a primary and they got huge numbers. We need to start emulating their neighbor to neighbor GOTV scheme, instead of calls or direct mail.

This result really diminishes our chances at retaking the senate. I know Whitehouse can still win, but make no mistake he is the underdog against an incumbent. The polls will move in Chafee's favor, by at least a few points.

I have two sharp friends who told me Chafee was a cinch in the primary a month or more ago. I know I mentioned that on DU. I hate it when they are right in this case, but they damn sure help to balance things out. When I'm posting on liberal blogs it's easy to get caught up in the hoopla that everything will break our way.

24. Chafee is suprised he won, himself!
I know how hard the Democrats will work in this state to ensure a win
for Whitehouse. It's going to be the Fight of the Century here in R.I.

32. all very close
a RI TV station did a poll (i think today) that had Chafee over Whitehouse by 43-42 ... I've seen other polls that had Whitehouse ahead by a few points ...

all that's out the window now ... it's a dead heat ...

33. Not much yet, it will be a Battle of the Titans
Thats why I mentioned hoping Chafe's Victory speech gets published.
Everything he said in his speech is Demo values all the way!

Whitehouse being a former prosecutor, will find it unrewarding to attack Chafee personally.

27. What difference does that make?
If he wins in November it helps the Pukes retain control. He should switch parties for the good of the country.
