Bush confesses to war crimes
http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_1185.shtml

George W. Bush's speech on September 6 amounted to a public confession to criminal violations of the 1996 War Crimes Act. He implicitly admitted authorizing disappearances, extrajudicial imprisonment, torture, transporting prisoners between countries and denying the International Committee of the Red Cross access to prisoners.

These are all serious violations of the Geneva Conventions. The War Crimes Act makes grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and all violations of Common Article 3 punishable by fines, imprisonment or, if death results to the victim, the death penalty.

At the same time, Bush asked Congress to amend the War Crimes Act in order to retroactively protect him and other U.S. officials from prosecution for these crimes, and from civil lawsuits arising from them. He justified this on the basis that "our military and intelligence personnel involved in capturing and questioning terrorists could now be at risk of prosecution under the War Crimes Act . . . ," and insisted that “passing this legislation ought to be the top priority” for Congress between now and the election in November.

His profession of concern for military and intelligence personnel was utterly misleading. Military personnel charged with war crimes have always been, and continue to be, prosecuted under the Universal Code of Military Justice rather than the War Crimes Act; and the likelihood of CIA interrogators being identified and prosecuted under the act is remote -- they are protected by the secrecy that surrounds all CIA operations.

2. This isn't quite that...
...but the Constitution does include a mechanism for citizens to initiate impeachment proceedings. It's a long shot, but why not try? Details here:

6. Remember that old Pace Picante Sauce commercial?
I think you know which one. If Bush is tried and convicted in a court of law, depending on the offense, the consequences could be very severe, indeed.

4. Then, when challenged by Matt Lauer...
He yelled "So what! I kept your family safe didn't I?" or equivalent drivel. He truly believes he's above the law; it must rankle him terribly to have to ask Congress to make his actions legal after the fact. Me, I hope he's convicted and sentenced to some appropriate punishment (and that'd be a very serious punishment indeed) for it one day.

17. So What? how much more ignorance and arrogance are we
going to take from this guy? He truly thinks he is above the law, and does not give a shit what anyone/or anybody thinks, now if you ran into someone like this on the street, what would you do to him? well whatever you choose to do, that type of response deserves a hit in the head.

9. When bush* started this war and all that illegal stuff/shit...he thought
he was safe from prosecution because Rethugs thought they'd have control of everything, but now he's running scared and has to get the law changed. I'll bet he has to wear depends to bed at night...second thought...he probably has to wear them 24/7.

Check the link in the sig line, I've been trying to get this out for 2 months now. And again, on video he told Matt Lauer that we use waterboarding. He's proud of it!

13. From the department of broken records (i.e., me)
No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.
United States Constitution, Section I, Article 9.

(And they emphasized it in Article 10 by saying states couldn't do it either.)

"An ex post facto law is a law passed after the occurrence of an event or action which retrospectively changes the legal consequences of the event or action."

21. Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention
Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention defines war crimes as: "Willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including... willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health, unlawful deportation or transfer or unlawful confinement of a protected person, compelling a protected person to serve in the forces of a hostile power, or willfully depriving a protected person of the rights of fair and regular trial, ...taking of hostages and extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly."

Bush and the GOP want these abuses of power to become a normal part of the way we govern our country. I won't let that happen!

26. In fact, he did...
he admitted the prisoners were in "secret" prisons and were transported to another country. He also admitted to torture, though not by name. Either he is above the law or he is not.
