2. Other
They can play rough on the high road.

Seriously. It is less a matter of manners and smearing than it is of issues.

The Democrats can be tough on mny issues -- economic, foreign policy, war, civil liberties and freedm, the environment -- without being mean spiritied mudslingers.

Exhibit A would be Paul Wellstone and Bernie Sanders -- two politicians who know (knew) how to directly address issues in a very strong way, without being petty or personal about it.

7. Yeah, Armstead I agree!
For God's sake, they've got soooooo many legitimate issues to play hardball with that it will be the pity of all pities, if the Democratic Party can't pull this off. I mean, they can hit'em high, low, sideways, up-ways, full circle, rope-a-dope, you name it. However, if they fail 'this' time, seemingly all hope will be loss.

17. Issues don't garner as much press or as many votes as mudslinging
and denegrating do though. If issues ruled over bombast, then Amy Goodman would be rich and Andy Coulter would being giving blow jobs in Times Square for $10.

23. So long as elections aren't about issues, we'll have shitty government.
The point is to be aggressive and make the issues the center of attention.

28. That's it in a nutshell
One reason that people se3em not to respond to issues is because they are presented badly -- or ignored.

If issues are presentd direrctly and honestly -- and with actual solutions proposed -- more peope would be more likely to get engaged with them.

4. They should match the
rhetoric...fight fire with fire. The political landscape is a littered with one liners, and slogans, and the RW has hit the LW numerous times under the belt...and I feel its time to start doing the same, to pay back the offer. I wouldn't let a day go by to remind people of T. Delay, Scooter Libby, Abramoff, and high prices of gas...and the most important of all "The repubs have been in charge of everything for over five years, how is that working out for you?" The RW has no excuses, and hopefully people will see that.

13. if you allow others to control you
by making you be 'not-nice' when you would rather BE nice who has really won anything?

Think about it???

You are being played.

You don't have to step into the shit with them.
Armistead says it far better on this thread than I can.

12. I kill you, you kill me-
what the f--ks the point??.

Why not just blow up the world?

so, there is no 'wrong'? or, "it's only wrong when YOU do it???"
sounds like bushshit to me-

You don't have to act like an ass to ride a donkey.
You just have to know how to make them go in the direction you want- just like bin laden has done to america.

20. When in doubt, take the OPPOSITE of the opponents' "free advice."
Their "free advice" WARNING Democrats not to "go negative" in 2000, 2002, and 2004 worked great -- for them. It made their mud-slinging more effective.

Same goes for who they claim to fear as our "formidable" candidates and any other "free advice" they generously offer.

22. They need to fight tough but SMART
The worst failing that I see is fighting the wrong battles in stupid ways.
Instead of getting bogged down in issues that the Republicanites pick out, the Dems need to speak on THEIR issues, particularly economic ones.
