Democrat urges GOP leaders to drop opposition Military Families
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 03:19 PM by Monkeyman
Washington, D.C. -Rep. George Miller (D-CA) ,the senior Democrat on House Education and Workforce Committee, issued the following statement today after Army Times reported that Republican leaders on the committee planed to oppose a provision in pending defence bill that would require the federal government to give its employees more flexibility to use earned leave time to care for their families while a loved one is called to active duty for the U.S Armed Forces and would encourage private employers to do the same.

"We have nearly 160,000 troops risking their lives for us in Iraq and Afghistan. We owe it to them to do everything in power to ensure that their families are taken care of while they are serving our country. In that spirit,Democrats in the Senate secured a provision in the Senate's 2007 defence bill that would require federal agencies to allow their employees to use their sick leave time to care for childern or other dependents when a family member in the Armed Forces is deployed. It would encourage, but not require, employers in the private sector to do the same for their employees.

Me the first place it should not be used on any leave time and it should be payed for. But the dam Replugs won't go for that at all.
