Zogby: Webb 50%, Allen 43%

First poll showing Webb with a significant lead. I think, so far, it's the only one. Their new commercial should help assure other polling companies emulate this result.

2. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in this poll
to be sure, Allen is in a vulnerable position. But this is a Zogby "Interactive" poll....they are usually notoriously off-the-mark. I am a Virginian, and I seriously doubt that Webb's pitiful campaign is running ahead of Allen's despite the latter's idiocy and media gaffes.

4. Allen lost his lead basically over night.
He was ahead 20%, and his gaffe suddenly made this race competitive. I would bet that people really did simply decide to support Webb because of Allen's stupidity. And I also think that Webb's credentials will be an extra bonus that could win him the race. You could be right though, Zogby has been notoriously off in these.

9. "Allen lost his lead basically over night."
I think that's right .... but that poll, I think, is too optimistic.

I see it this way: Webb is a man who can appeal pretty much all over Virginia. Felix had his hard core, hard right support and his ..... what can I call it? ..... 'interial' support. The people who were going to vote for him cuz .... 'why not'? I guess the political scientists might call this 'fuzzy support' or some such. Anyway, that's who left him after his gaffes. Now the race is essentially even. Felix has lots of work to do, but so does Webb. I give the advantage to Webb and see it as a 3-point-ish race. But that's too close for any serious level of confidence.

26. I wouldn't count on stupidity being a negative with everyone
I would bet that people really did simply decide to support Webb because of Allen's stupidity.

Stupidity seems to be a plus for Allen's conserative base. They want simple answers to complicated problems and a black and white version of a world filled with shades of gray.

7. it's now averaging his being down 1%-5%.
This Zogby poll is a rarity. Again that commerical hasn't picked up speed yet but I'm sure as soon as it does, he will make some major gains.

5. Early on, Webb's polling found an 11 point lead once voters
knew who he was and where he stands. That internal polling is bearing out as Virginians learn about Webb.

I spent 3 hours on Sunday distributing Webb literature out the entrance to the Towne Point Park Boat Show in Norfolk, VA.

This is a show that attracts sportsmen and rich Republicans. I was blown away by the positive response to Webb from this crowd.

Webb took off over the Labor Day weekend to see his Marine son off to Iraq, but is back on the trail.

Webb is compelling and Virginia Democrats are very proud to have him as our candidate.

By the way, Webb accepts NO money from PACs or special interest groups. He has the guts to stand up and speak the truth and he has integrity.

We need more people like him running for office.

You can donate to the Webb campaign at http://www.webbforsenate.com/donate

11. I am in NoVA
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 12:14 AM by DesertedRose
..and while I have seen Webb and Andrew Hurst signs paired together, and (unfortunately) seen plenty of signs for Tom Davis, I have seen NONE for Felix Allen. It'd be like advertising that you're a racist sympathizer, I think....no one wants to be THOUGHT a racist, much less outwardly support one....

19. I Live In NoVa. Starting To See Webb Signs. ...
Congress critters Wolfe and Allen do _NOT_ mention their political party as GOP! If this be an honest vote counted election, then Webb stands a good chance of winning.

8. I'm sorry but I just can't believe this
maybe a virtual tie I would believe, but has Webb even been campaigning? Wasn't he was taking time off to spend with his son who is shipping out to Iraq. Macaca was a couple weeks ago, he can't still have momentum from that. I just don't see any good reason why he would make a big move in the polls. I think this race is competative, but I'd still be surprised if Allen doesn't pull this out. I think we need another 'gift' to make it happen since the money is sure not on our side.

where nancy reagan is aking webb to pull the ad? I just read the thread title, but it's probably in LBN. I haven't seen the ad, but if it's having a positive effect, I hope he'll continue to run it.

If that ad is running statewide, it will be hard to counter the power of St. Reagan.

The great Commonwealth of Virginia, home of Robert E. Lee and J.E.B. Stuart will not elect Webb. :sarcasm:

Ain't gonna' happen, sorry.

Put the energy and donations into Mt. and Pa. and Fl. instead.
