PLAYING OFFENSE 101: (Example) Vote pro-life. Vote Democratic.
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 10:39 PM by blondeatlast
An effective offensive campaign can still be completely ethical.

There's a few things we need to get clear. Playing offense doesn't mean getting down in the mud, though I'm more than willing to go there--the world is at stake. Nor does it mean lying--that's even counterproductive, since we know we have the ethical high ground.

It means coming out with simple, irrefutable messages that cut right down to the heart of the matter. Rove mastered the first part, but he outright LIES.

The entire point is to make them answer for damage already done, and never, ever let up for a moment.

Since I'm a longtime advocate of stem-cell research funding, I'll make my example out of that.

Please note that I'm not an ad executive, no doubt this needs finessed a bit, but think of a
simple print ad; full page in major newspapers:

This

can save this:

Are you really pro-life? Then vote Democratic.

Democrats wnat to expand lifesaving scientific research in the US. Republicans have already curtailed it and will continue to do so.

1. Mine .....
Your mother fought hard to give you the right to make your own choices.

The Republicans will take that choice away from you.

Listen to your mother.

2. Perfect. There's a lot of us whose mothers marched on those
front lines--mine included.

I'm damn proud of my mother!

3. Didn't you and I carry on a similar two way conversation a few
months ago? Talk about campaigning and messaging?

5. I believe we did. I'm seeing a lot of DUers not getting the fact
that rough campaigning needn't be spreading lies and flinging poo.

We can use their memes against them as long as we back them into the wall and don't let them up.

They're on the defensive this time--and frankly, I'm enjoying being a bully!

I just got a letter from the White House about why W voted down stem-cell research expansion. I couldn't bring myself to read it (had a bad day yesterday as is), but I'm going to post it later--with a deconstruction.

4. Also remember that abortions have increased every yr under Dubya
They decreased every year under Clinton.

Here's a simple question to ask voters who vote solely on abortion:

The GOP has had control of all branches of Government now for 6 years. They promised to ban abortions yet abortions have increased every year during GOP control. Why haven't they upheld their promise?

The answer is they don't want to. There are two things that go over big with the GOP's base, and they are terrorism and abortion. They're losing respectability on the terrorism front. So that leaves abortion.

If you ban abortion then they lose one of their biggest selling points. Without a wedge issue like abortion they are history. It's what keeps them in power. God knows they've got nothing else to sell people.

6. Also remember -- 7 out of 9 Supreme Court Justices appointed by Republican
7 out of the 9 Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Republicans.

And abortion is STILL LEGAL.
