Giuliani looks back — and forward



NEW YORK (AP) — The man who was dubbed “America's Mayor” in the aftermath of 9/11 puts in succinctly today: "Thank God we're safe."

Those are the words of Rudolph Giuliani as he stood near a lower Manhattan church near the World Trade Center site. The man who was mayor of New York City five years ago is happy to admit he was wrong in thinking it would be the first in a series of quick and deadly attacks.

But Giuliani is quick to add that he believes America is “vulnerable." He says the enemy is "going to attack us again,” and he warns that Americans need to be prepared.

Looking back to 2001, Giuliani says he does have some regrets. He wishes the first responders to Ground Zero had better protection from the toxic dust that's killed or sickened many. Giuliani says those who fell ill need to be taken care of.
