Why is Clinton raising funds for Strickland in Ohio?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 11:06 PM by OzarkDem
but raising funds for Claire McCaskill in Missouri?

Strickland (and I love him dearly) already has a ton of money and is 25 points ahead of Blackwell.

Why is Clinton coming to Cleveland to raise money for Strickland instead of raising it for Sherrod Brown, who, like Claire McCaskill in Missouri, is in a tough race against a GOP incumbent?

Stupid Dem politics. This is why we lose so often.

1. It doesn't matter which Democrat he raises money for
The money gets moved around to other candidates. People just like to have a "name" they think they are donating to, not realizing the money gets diverted to other Democratic candidates.

2. Bullshit - Why didn't he raise the money for Sherrod?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 11:31 PM by OzarkDem
and let Sherrod give the money to Ted if he neede it?

Pardon me, but I blame the limo liberals from the Cleveland Heights, OH crowd. Experts at losing elections since 2000.

Ted and Sherrod have both been in office a long time.

This makes no sense.

4. How do you come to this information?
I've been involved in a lot of fund raisers and I've never heard anything like this.

25. If the money is raised for the state's Coordinated Campaign...
it is used for ALL Democrats.

It depends on how the money is raised. If it's hard money it's regulated by the FEC.

I don't think it's correct to say it's passed to other candidates. There are limits to how that money can be spent.

If it's money raised for a PAC there are different rules but that money CAN be given to other candidates.

10. You are 100% correct.
Its actually better to raise money in, say, New York, then funnel it to Montana if need be.

24. Thanks, I heard this all over
For example Hillary Clinton is expected to channel money into other Democrats. I have read that right here on DU.

Thanks

6. oNE Good reason is
If Strickland blows him out it helps down the ballot races, plus if its assured that Strickland will cruise he can pass along the money to other races. Its been forever since we won any statewide race so its the smart move. Beating Chabot would be a good start.

7. Bullshit
Strickland is already 25 points ahead, and has outraised every other Dem on the ticket.

OTOH, the GOP is putting millions into DeWine's ad campaign.

If Clinton can support McCaskill in Missouri, he should support Sherrod Brown in Ohio.

Unless Peggy Fisher says otherwise.

19. That's the point
Strickland is running against the massively corrupt Gov. Bob Taft, who currently has an approval rating of about 17%. Ted, to his credit, is now about 25 points ahead of the GOP candidate, Ken Blackwell. Big business in Ohio sees the handwriting on the wall and has given Ted a lot of money, hoping he will work with them when he' elected.

But Sherrod Brown is running for US Senate against DeWine, who is an incumbent and has much more money. In addition, the GOP has allowed DeWine to cultivate a "faux moderate" record in Congress, plus they've donated tens of millions to his campaign to protect the GOP majority.

So who should Clinton be helping raise funds in these races? Just like he's done in Missouri, he should help Brown, like he helped McCaskill.

23. excellent point
"faux moderate" --- I noticed this myself with DeWine's non important votes being cast for liberal causes when the vote didn't matter - but sure matters when it comes to election time in a middle of the road state like Ohio.

At least there's two of us who aren't fools.

16. Great idea - Boycott the Strickland - Clinton event
I'm going to cancel my credit card payment for my ticket to this event and will encourage others to do likewise.
I've had enough of the assholes who pretend to be Dems in Ohio only when its good for their pocketbook.

27. I don't think they do
the Ohio Dem Party leadership still has a lot of problems at the core; still the same problems with cliques of power that don't know a great deal about how to win races.

Blackwell at the core of many of them which is perhaps why the Dems want to hedge their bets with plenty of cash. Makes sense to me.

21. You must not know that slimy crook Blackwell
That scumbag will do ANYTHING to win. The dirty slime tactics have only begun. Everyone knows it and that is why Strickland has to be fully LOADED with money to fight the hundreds of ads that Blackwell will put out.Every time I turn the TV on Blackwell is on. It's truly sickening the lies that creep puts out.Looks like it might be back firing right now,but we can't take any chances. The LAST thing we need is another immoral crooked Governor.

29. Personally I don't want Governor Blackwell come 2008
I'm not sold on black box voting but I do remember the long lines to vote in African American neighborhoods in '04. BBV or not, Blackwell will pull dirty tricks as long as he is in power. We need Strickland to win if we are to ensure a fair election in 2008.
