What s the deal with Ed Schultz on the Jones Radio network?

Radio person Ed Schultz (of the Jones Radio network) sounds to me like a concervatve pretending to be a liberal- He gets offended if hes called a progressive. But some claim he's just a moderate with both liberal and concervative views. What do you think?
I know some of the left leaning people over at Air America, such as Randi Rhodes and the much missed Mike malloy didn't think much of Shultz..

1. I thought that he was an ex-conservative that has moved left. Beyond that,

I don't know. While I am not a big fan of his, he does speak to the sort of fence walkers that once were called "reagan democrats" - so I suppose there is a place for him.

2. He goes after the moderate demographics

Not the Randi-like demographic. Ed is the real deal, and it is just the Jones Radio Network, no "mother" anywhere in the name.

3. Ed used to be a Pub. I listen to him almost every day.

I don't always agree with him, but then I don't always agree with anybody.

I think he does very well with the moderates in both parties, and we need hosts like him every bit as much as we need the Malloy's andthe Randi's.

he often gets his facts wrong,

he too often reads the DLC party line,

and he sometimes has HUGE blind spots in his knowledge base.

That said, he is NOT ashamed to admit that he
is WRONG when he has been proven so,

...and he attracts fence-sitters and white, male
voters that may otherwise vote republican.

Soooooo, I think on balance, that he
is a positive for our side.

Personally, I can only take so much of
him before switching over to FM music radio,
BUT I appreciate that he may appeal to cross-over
voters.

6. He's a former puke who moved to the center

His politics tend to mirror that of Sen Dorgan ND.
Schultz is a populist on most economic issues: He has said that the oil companies should be fined for gouging. He wants tighter controls on the borders. He is pro-Union. He has pointed out numerous times that over 50% of all new jobs created under scrubbie are service sector jobs that pay minimum wage or less with zero benefits.
On social issues he's fairly libertarian. He's pro gay rights, pro guns, etc.

I stream his show on line from Korea. I like Eddie. I don't always agree with him, but he's the only radio personality (That I've heard of) that doesn't screen his callers. So, when you talk to him, he has no idea what topic your going to present. I find him to be quick on the uptake. Savvy in politics.
I think a lot of people on the left don't like him because he's not pure enough for them. But, he attracts the attention of people in small towns in Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, etc.

7. I have heard him call himself a progressive.

He says "progressive", or "lefty", but never "liberal" that I know of.

Ed appeals to the mainstream, and that's his value. There are a lot of people out there who would never listen to a Randi Rhodes or a Sam Seder or a Mike Malloy in a million years.

Sometimes he's rather thick-headed and/or egotistical, but that appeals to a lot of people who aren't very intellectual themselves. He comes off as a fellow-traveler looking for answers, rather than dictating them. He's got a larger audience (1 million) than anyone on AAR, and that's why a lot of Senators and other notable people go on his show.

When I tune in, it's to hear the variety of callers and guests he comes up with. I can do without the fishing or sports talk! :boring:

8. Stations can't offer true Leftists, I guess

They have to find "rightwingers who moved to the center" or some similar limp wristed stuff. Out of all the radio hosts that people cheer for here, I havent seen a one that's a true leftist, progressive or the like.

And it is 100% pure that he's not a Liberal Progressive and isn't proud to say it constantly.

He also makes it clear that he hunts, fishes, and eats red meat.

So what.

There are a LOT - and I mean a LOT of DU'ers who also post on Eddie's board, or who participate in his life chats that he does monthly, and we all have a blast!

I won't say the names of all the DU'ers who go to the chats or the board, they know who they are..

Call him a centrist, a moderate, a repub, or "DLC all the way," he gets ratings.

14. We need to pull it together

Ed doesn't say all the things I want to hear but most of us on this site are more left than middle and we need someone like him to talk to the middle. They say thats where all the votes are. True lefties vote dem no matter what same with the right. People in the middle go either way and someone far left will turn them off.
