Bush Pushes Bill to Try Terror Detainees

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush pressed Congress on Saturday to approve his plan
for prosecuting suspected terrorists, a proposal lawmakers could debate as early
as next week.

"As soon as Congress acts to authorize these military commissions, we will prosecute
these men and send a clear message to those who kill Americans: No matter how long
it takes, we will find you and bring you to justice," Bush said in his weekly radio
address. "As we bring terrorists to justice, we're acting to secure the homeland."

The radio address marked the fourth time this week that Bush has delivered a message
about the war on terror. The series of speeches gave Bush an opportunity to buttress
the GOP's national security credentials just two months before the critical
congressional elections on Nov. 7.

We have prosecuted terrorists before (under the Clinton administration). They are now rotting in prison. Why do we need a new military tribunal system to prosecute them now?

2. Exactly. We have a court system in the US.

We don't need a kangaroo court in Cuba.

This is all about giving Bush more power. Letting him appoint a judge and jury with no Senate confirmation.

Tell your Senators and Rep that you want American justice for terrorists here, not a kangaroo court in Cuba.

3. Hitler got caught and now Hitler changes the law!

That is what this is about! He was found guilty by the supreme court, now he is going to change the law, so he can do whatever he wants. You know, this is setting a precedent that treads on very dangerous waters for all. From the way I understand what he wants. The prisoner does not have to be present (face his accusers), he does not have access to eveidence against him, and he does not even have to be in court while he is being tried.
