Disney boycott -- who's in?

I've made my calls to Disney and sent them e-mail.

Let's get into serious action mode, OK?

I've put a Boycott logo on my site, and I plan to boycott Disney products for the foreseeable future if their bogus 9/11 "docudrama" show airs.

No ABC shows, no ESPN, no Little Mermaid feetie pajamas, nothing.

And how about YOU???

I guess some boycotts are easier than others.

Death to Disney as far as I'm concerned. If not for this, I would have been looking at upgrading my DVD collection to include a number of Disney classics. That will not be happening. Should I become a parent in the future, ours will be a Disney free household. I've been to Disney World before. Never again.

16. This is a great start
Let's keep this coming. Let's let Disney know that playing sleazy politics with 9/11, with their "The Path to 9/11" mini-series, is going to cost them dearly.

There are a *lot* of DUers, and I think most of us feel the same about ABC's shameless attempt to score cheap, dishonest political points by exploiting a tragedy that America will never forget.

Activist liberals are true patriots who embody so much of what this country is proud of. Like the way we rallied out of the Depression and won WWII (here's a hint -- Herbert Hoover wasn't president then). And heroes like Martin Luther King, Jr., who brought out the best in us.

On 9/11, we Americans -- all of us -- were bitterly angry about the unspeakable crime that was committed against us.

But in the wake of it, we made ourselves proud: a country united, strong, and charitable. Our American impetuousness tempered by a willingess to get through this thing together, as runways, stock markets, and ballfields went idle, until we could figure out if and how we could get back to the business of living.

There was a broad consensus in favor of taking on the Taliban, who gave haven to Al Qaeda. There was a goal of vengeance, yes, but also for a brighter, more peaceful future.

Most of the world was on our side, as we pulled ourselves up and started to pick up the pieces.

But, sadly, our leadership chose to simultaneously exploit and squander the authority that landed in its lap when the country was on the rebound from this tragedy.

Today, we are country less united and less beloved. And that's a shame, but that's what happens when such faith and power is misused.

And now, on the fifth anniversary of that infamous day, the Walt Disney Company chooses to turn the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans into a free advertisement for the party that ignored so many warnings... on the path to 9/11.

It really sickens me to have to make such a plea under these circumstances, rather than quietly reflecting on the lives lost, and on hopes for brighter days ahead.

Boycott Disney.

I've sent numerous howlers and made numerous phone calls to both Disney and ABC. I've already relegated ABC to Fox status and have used parental controls to keep them out of our home. I've already told my kids they're going to have to take one for the team, and blocks will be put in place on all of Disney's tentacles. We're also set to sell our stock the moment the crockumentary hits the airwaves.

19. I'd love to boycott Disney networks, but........
it's part of the digital tier Time-Warner cable offers and I'm stuck with it. What we need to do is pressure these cable companies to offer a la carte programing choices so that I don't have to pay for 4 Disney and 6 right wing evangelical "christian" channels that I never watch on my cable bill. I'e rather pay more and have a choice in what I pay for then to know a portion of my cable bills goes to these idiots who are nothing more than oxygen thieves. Only then will they feel the heat of a boycott of their broadcast networks. As it is now, they couldn't care less because their channels are part of a "package" deal on most cable outlets and they get paid whether you watch or not. The real kick-in-the-ass will come when we let their advertisers know how unhappy we are with them.

20. Good points, but...
They care about ratings, and they care when people won't go to their theme parks, movies, buy their DVDs and toys, etc.

Networks like CBS ("The Reagans") have taken notice when conservative groups boycott them, and they shouldn't have less to fear from the other half of America.

Impressively, ABC wasn't able to get advertisers for the show. Apparently, the rest of corporate America figured out something that Disney hasn't yet. Let's help them with the figurin'.

Take ABC off your TV remote, and call your cable company and DEMAND that, if you have Disney BUNDLED, that they UNBUNDLE it and give you another choice of a channel instead, OR give you a rebate. If ENOUGH people call their cable companies and COMPLAIN ABOUT DISNEY, they WILL feel the heat!!!!!

To get any of the C-span channels or the History channel or A&E, you have to get 4 different Disney channels and 5 different evangelical religio-whacko channels. I've written them a searing letter to complain, but I'm sure I'll get the typical canned response.

32. Boycott? They're dead and don't know it yet
Disney's income is based on middle class dollars.
They're in bed with the Prime Movers of class warfare -sleeping (or worse) with the enemy.
Anybody that spends a penny on them from now forward is aiding and abetting the enemy.
If we push hard enough and long enough, the Zombie of Walt Disney's empire will stop oppressing us.
There is nothing whatsoever they can do to make this up.

that my daughter loves to watch. That will raise a ruckus, for sure.

None of us watchESPN, except when there's tennis, and the Open is over. Maybe we'll just cut the cable off entirely, that's more like what I would like to do -- give up television entirely.

45. I have a question about boycotting.....
I tried to start a thread about this question, but I don't have enough posts yet, so I apologize for hijacking this one momentarily.

I can understand the zeal and fervor for a boycott of Disney, ABC, ESPN, etc., but I'm wondering how long folks will continue this boycott. There have been a few posters who have said they are done supporting them "forever", but what happens if they change their tune and start acting in a way more conducive to our way of thinking? What will it take for them to do to regain your business?

It's all well and good to say that we're not using/watching any of your products because of this docudrama, but what options are you giving them to get your business back? If they show the movie, are you out forever no matter what changes they might make in the future?

I'm not trying to be snarky here, these are actual questions. A boycott will only work if you are making demands for them to change, I'm just wondering what those changes would be. (I'm not including pulling the movie, since at this late time it's 99% sure they'll be showing it.)

49. 'Tis a fair question
When to *end* the boycott is a problem we'd like to have, as it would mean we have established enough leverage with Disney that they'll make some legitimate effort to make amends.

Right now, I think we should focus on presenting as united a front as possible to create a substantial boycott movement.

Conservatives have organized well enough to scare the likes of CBS out of showing "The Reagans." I'm not sure what their secret is -- perhaps it's the network of evangelicals that companies are terrified of?

Half of America leans leftward. If we can get a substantial number of us to stop going to the theme parks, etc., we'll have something.

Please make sure to help punish Disney for this crap. If your friend says he's thinking of taking the kids to Disney World, read him the riot act, and tell him about the cool stuff at Universal and Sea World.
