Kansas City Protests Bush (includes photos!)
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 08:00 PM by scratchtasia
Bush visited Kansas City this afternoon to do a private fundraiser for Senator Jim Talent. If you had $1000, you could go. It was held at the mansion of a Russell Stover heir and executive. (So don't eat that crap!)

Of course we protested! It was a beautiful day and we got lots of supportive honks from passing motorists. I spent most of my time holding up a sign ("BUSH'S TALENT IS LYING"), so I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few highlights from the few I took.

And please check out my counter-fundraiser for Claire McCaskill at http://www.actblue.com/page/protestbush-helpclaire ! Let's get Bush to raise some money for Claire McCaskill, too! Even $5 or $10 will help!

OK, the pics...

This is just a random crowd shot. I was sort of in the crowd at the time, so most people aren't really facing the camera. But you can see some of the signs and such.

Here's one of my favorite signs, carried by a young kid whose parents are obviously raising him right.

But this sign broke my heart.

Bush's motorcade had traffic tied up on Ward Parkway for what must have been miles. I don't imagine these people were too happy. I was wishing I had a sign that said, "Stuck in traffic? Thank Bush's motorcade!"

Maybe some of the other KC DUers can post some more.

Please remember to protest Bush by helping Claire McCaskill:

3. Got it
Whew. There! It's very picky! Some uppercase-lowercase thing was causing the problem.

4. What street is that on?
Just curious. That "Bush Killed Our Only Son" sign is sad but powerful.

7. It is Ward Parkway in Kansas City.
Probably the most famous boulevard in Kansas City and runs right through the most exclusive "old school money" neighborhoods, many of whom are dear friends of mine.......and Dems.

12. One little tidbit....
I believe that street is named after the great grandparents of Scott Ward, host of the Bush fundraiser, and owner of Russell Stover chocolates.

8. Nice job Sratchtasia!
Thanks for posting. I'd love to see more if you or other DU'ers have them.

I was there for a while today with my mom. She actually stuck around for about 2 hours longer than me.

14. I was there longer than I thought
I'd expected to leave at around 4:30 but ended up staying until after 6:00. It was really a lot of fun. I wish we'd had even more people, but it still made me happy to see so many different people and to get so many supportive waves and honks from passing drivers.

22. Hey you ought to join us on Tuesdays at 63 and Ward Parkway
from 5 to 6. We get lots of honks there!

Then there is always Sundays from 4 to 5 at Nichols Fountain. We need many many more people at both weekly events. :)

29. Weekly
I can't do the Tuesday ones because I wouldn't even be able to get there until 6:00 or later (blame work). Sundays, maybe, one of these days. I don't know how you find the time for all of your activities, though!

This was actually just across the Kansas state line, on the Missouri side--but plenty of Kansans were there!

16. This Kansan was there, but yes, it was on the MO side of State Line.
I didn't correct the poster above because it just felt so good to see people say something good about Kansas! Besides our kick ass basketball and football teams that is.....

I do know that other candy companies make them. I love them too and I never buy Russell Stover's.

I gave up Russell Stovers 30 years ago when I first learned what rabid repukes they are. And I have not missed them one bit.

I have been meaning to contribute to Claire but had not gotten around to it, so your post was a catalyst to doing what needed to be done. I am proud that my hometown showed the boy king exactly how he is regarded in the Heart of America.

25. Great pics Scratch!
That mother of the boy killed in Iraq is a very nice person. I met her in Crawford last August. We talked again yesterday. Her story is very tragic.

Did you also see Thomas Young, who is a native Kansas Citian and is now in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the neck down, thanks to george's war? When I found him he was giving hell to those idiot (no)Talent supporters. Thomas rocks! He is a powerful public speaker. He put those kids to shame yesterday.

My pics

28. More, more, more
A fellow named Jon Matthew posted loads more KC protest photos at his Yahoo Photos site. I found one that includes our own evlbstrd (with the awesome "Worst. Disaster. Ever." sign) and me (with "Bush's Talent Is Lying").
