4. Good ad.
There are lots of veterans in Virginia and this will help with them - also with the Reagan Democrats, independents and hopefully moderate Republicans. Webb makes Allen look like an idiot twit. I hope the people of Virginia finally start seeing Allen for what he is.

6. We All Hope so, Pip
---- As a life-long Virginian,.. a journalist and political activist, I take a great interest in the Webb-Allen contest. It seems to me that, perhaps more than any other state, Virginia is in the process of changing its "political spots." Mark Warner's hugely successful governorship may have marked the beginning of the trend. Tim Kaine's stunning victory in the last governor's race solidified it,.. as well as providing an unmistakeable rebuke to Bush's last-minute attempts to influence the election. Allen's recent stupid gaffe, and Bush's overwhelming unpopularity are two more factors. My guess is that the recent polls showing Webb with a tiny fractional lead over Allen are actually understated,.... and Virginia is going to break free of the GOP lock once and for all. Fingers crossed

9. I sent him some money
I live in CA and our Dem Senate seat is safe. So I thought I'd contribute where it might do some good. After the Macaca caca I couldn't imagine how Allen and his handlers actually believe he has a shot at the Presidency in '08. But then look you sits in the WH today? So go figure. Allen is just what the GOP ordered to take over where Bush will leave off.

I don't want to see that happen. And there seem to be enough stupid people in this country to make it so. :puke:

7. You know Macaca Allen is crapping his shorts
I sincerely doubt there's any footage of Reagan praising Allen since Allen led your typical republican-life of supporting the Vietnam War but not enlisting, living off daddy's money, and dabbling in race-baiting.

10. Allen campaign enlisting Nancy Reagan to try and stop this Webb bio ad!
Allen campaign evidently very worried about the impact this Webb bio ad featuring Ronald Reagan will have on their shrinking poll numbers...

Link to ad: http://www.webbforsenate.com/ads/

Article in which Webb stands up his ad: http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/81976

Webb stood by the ad while campaigning in Roanoke on Friday night, saying it appropriately uses footage in the public domain and is positive. He said he had not seen the correspondence from Nancy Reagan's office or the joint statement of three former Reagan advisers.

"If Ronald Reagan made any speeches about George Allen, I would imagine George Allen would be wanting to use the footage," Webb said in response to a question about the statements. "I would encourage them to try to go find some."

Webb drew loud applause when he made a similar comment to more than 100 supporters attending a rally at the campaign's downtown Roanoke office.

The campaign showed the ad several times on a large screen. It shows footage of Reagan telling Naval Academy graduates: "One man who sat where you do now is another member of our administration, Assistant Secretary of Defense James Webb, the most decorated member of his class. James' gallantry as a Marine officer in Vietnam won him the Navy Cross and other decorations."

11. Nancy Reagan Has Asked Webb to Pull This Ad
RICHMOND, Sept. 8 -- Former first lady Nancy Reagan on Friday asked Virginia Democratic Senate candidate James Webb to not use a television commercial that shows former president Ronald Reagan praising Webb, his former Navy secretary.

In a letter faxed to Webb at 5 p.m., the chief of staff of the Reagan Library in California urged him to not use footage from a speech by the former president at the Naval Academy in 1985. Webb is trying to unseat Sen. George Allen (R) in November's election. The speech lauded Webb and his achievements.

Hello Nancy, your deceased hubby was a public figure and his likeness can be used anytime, anywhere.

16. Why shouldn't he use it? Was Reagan being insincere? No?
Then he has every right to air sincere praise of his record by anyone at all. It is evidence in his case for the voters. That Republicans may not like his evidence is no business of his. They can go get fucked. They're the ones who canonized reagan, after all...

17. So how did Allen vote on Stem Cell research?
I could make a good guess. Maybe Ron Jr. needs to talk to his Mom.

That ad would go over great in Eastern North Carolina where the bluedog Dems and the military hang out. I assume it would do the same in Virginia! :)

12. It's an excellent ad.
The complaints are nothing but childish hypocrisy. Frankly, if he can't air that ad, then Allen should take down all his pictures of him with Reagan. If he doesn't then his people need to shut the fuck up.

15. Yes he has...
Attended several events with Webb...Governor Kaine has as well...

This is an excellent ad, and the complaints from Nancy and the complaining wing of the Republcian Party will have no effect on Webb and the broadcasting of this ad..

As a matter of fact, I hope they keep complaining...just gets the ad a wider audience.
