A Great Scene From "The Exorcist"
---- I suppose there are plenty of younger DU'ers who may not have seen this movie, but most folks in their 40's and 50's ought to remember it pretty well. And it contained a scene which I now frequently think about when I read this forum.

---- It is the scene in which the old, experienced exorcist-priest (Max von Sydow?) first arrives at the Georgetown home, and is met by the young priest... who has already had his share of weird experiences with the Satan-possessed Regan, but refuses to believe. The young priest says to the old man, "I have identified three separate personalities,...." but the old man cuts him off abruptly and says, "There is only one."

---- Ladies and gentlemen,... THAT is the PNAC-Corporatist Compact. And as the old priest demonstrated, there is no listening to them, no dealing with them, no arguing with them, no tolerance of them. They are to be completely and utterly destroyed, vanquished, sent back to hell. Treating the day's political dialogue and events as the subject of self-righteous gossip and sanctimonious recrimination about what "they" have done most recently is to completely beg the question of who "they" are. When you get that straight in your minds, that's all you need to know.

rise of the New Left. That was the standard take on the film at the time, anyway.

But, I like your interpretation better. :toast:

2. You think of us when you think of the Exorcist?
Oh Parisle..

Well. At least we're not performing exorcisms like someone we know!

4. Now, now,.. Larissa,.....
---- I was only trying to say that I worry that Bush opposition is going in too many directions at once, and possibly becoming distracted by the incidental details,.. and failing to keep eyes on the prize. There is no need to explain or explicate the neocons, nor is there any need or advantage in cataloging their evils and misdeeds. They are the latest incarnation of the same political reasoning which produced the nazis,... That's the whole deal.

3. Here's an interesting tidbit about the Exorcist you might not have known:

I've seen similar reports along these lines elsewhere, before.

Subliminal techniques were employed in a major motion picture, The Exorcist. The producers were apparently effective enough in inciting fear and terror that their use of subliminal techniques is a major issue in a $350,000 lawsuit against Warner Brothers for injuries sustained by one viewer, when he fainted and broke his jaw shortly after seeing a subliminal death mask. Interestingly enough, William Blatty, the author of the novel on which the Exorcist is based, is a former CIA operative who served as the Policy Branch Chief of Psychological Warfare Division of the United States Air force.

According to previously classified documents, the CIA tested subliminal manipulation in movie theaters during the late 1950's and a document on these studies speculated "that subliminal projection can be utilized in such a way as to feature visual suggestion" The extent of the CIA research is unknown.
