I'm very disappointed in Democrats today.
At least the ones in my county commission district. A dedicated, politically active, experienced environmentalist who launched her campaign a year and a half ago was defeated in our primary by a city councilman with a horrible record for non-responsiveness to his constituents and accepting campaign money from developers who entered the race at the very last minute. According to all polls, both his, hers and the Republicans, her issue stance blew everyone else's away. He out-spent her.

I'm also flat out questioning the integrity of our postal service. The environmentalist sent out a beautiful mailer one week before the primary and no one on our list of recipients received it. Not a single person. Yet I received, not one, not two, but three mailers from her opponent in the last week.

What the fuck is going on folks?

5. I'm all for new blood
But I don't see how my having a passion for a liberal Dem makes me conservative. Your statement is just - odd.

16. Some people want "new" just for the sake of "new" vs. tried and true
I'll take a seasoned, proven Democrat with a lot to prove his mettle like Kerry over some newbie... as for Clark, he's quite a great man.

2. It sounds like she ran a lukewarm campaign against a millionnaire
Not knowing the details other than what you mentioned, her name did not get out to the voters. Did she have a web site or any media exposure (radio interviews/newspaper/TV...)?

If it was just an online campaign without much on the streets action, it will never work.

12. No, not at all. Here's the odd thing.
She had several favorable editorials in the paper in the last few weeks. Our local paper does not do endorsements until the general election, but their editorials made it clear she was THE choice for democrats. She had a great website, had a well organized door to door campaign and did lots of corner sign waving and public appearances. (Don't know if this is a national thing. Bill Nelson sealed this as a Florida campaign requirement awhile back)

No half-assed campaign at all!

6. yep, and we wonder why our leadership is corporatist....
The only folks who generally get elected are either rich beneficiaries of corporate capitalism, or pet politicians funded by the rich beneficiaries of corporate capitalists, and beholden to them.

7. I wouldn't call it a post office conspiracy just yet
I co-hosted a party for our Democratic candidate for State Representative back in July, and I am still receiving "Return to Sender" notices from the post office for invalid addresses. Their staffing and budget have been cut, which means their productivity is going down.

13. I'd buy "invalid addresses" except...
I'm pretty sure my address, my sister's address, the local DEC president's address were all valid. I addressed the mailers! It makes sense if a percentage are rejected, but not being able to find a single person who received her mailers is just bizarre.

25. Paper ballot...
You can audit the machine count using the paper ballot... I suggest you make every effort to see that an audit is done. Get the candidate to request an audit be allowed. Demand an audit.

The officials need to prove the election was fair and square and that the ballots were counted as the people cast them. Ask them to prove it.

21. Maybe the flyers are still being analyzed for Anthrax?
Hey, I got a story for you too about the postal service.

A few months back, I went to the post office to put a letter in the mail from my adopted son to his birth parents. We let him write letters to his biological parents when he wants, but we do not put a return address on it. That's because well, we do not want them to know our address for some good reasons which I will not get into.

So, I go to send out the letter and the postman at the counter says I cannot mail it. He explains it's because there is no return address on it. He said that due to the Anthrax, all letters being dropped off at the post office had to have a return address. Now, this is just stupid as any terrorist worth his salt could easily fake a return address. Or he could drop it off at a blue mailbox without a return address and that would be acceptable! The kicker in all this is that the source of the anthrax was most likely the US military according to scientific research.

So, I go outside instead to drop the letter off in the blue mailbox right outside the post office.

23. Most of the local Dems in my area are beholding to Developers.
I stupidly didn't realize this, and gave them small monetary contributions and a lot of time and leg-work. Then they got elected to city council and suddenly, they never saw a strip mall that they didn't think was just the 'prettiest thing".
:sarcasm:

One fellow did turn out to be good, He has kept me from being totally disillusioned, but the rest were wolves in sheep's clothing.

In regards to the other subject that has been brought up here: I admire both Wes Clark and John Kerry a great deal. "Old Guard" strikes me as "strange terminology". I judge each person for what they have done during their lifetime. People like Wes Clark have kept me from being too cynical when the local people have let me down. The developers reign where I live and I'm really getting sick of it.
