It's official: Kinky Friedman has jumped the shark
You kind of knew it was coming...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060906/ap_on_re_us/governor_kinky

HOUSTON - Kinky Friedman, the proudly politically incorrect entertainer running for governor, said Wednesday he wouldn't put just 1,500 National Guard troops on the Texas-Mexico border, he'd send 10,000.

"We've waited 153 years for the feds to help us," Friedman said. "They haven't yet. We have our own army. I want 10,000 Texas National Guard troops on the border and I want them now."

It was one of four broad policy issues Friedman outlined Wednesday along with crime in Houston, state spending and taxes.

On Houston's crime problem, Friedman said Hurricane Katrina evacuees who relocated to the city and break the law or refuse to find jobs should be sent back to Louisiana.

Sad. He turns out to be just another doofus who looks cooler in a black hat than most other doofi. I'm almost surprised he didn't call for putting uniforms on the Katrina evacuees and sending them to the border. :sarcasm: How can he and so many others not realize that the evacuees would go home in a heartbeat if they only had a home to go to?!

Texas DUers, please. Vote for the Dem. The sad thing I can't seem to recall the Dem's name...

Oh yes, if push came to shove, Louisiana would have no choice but to declare war on Texas. Then we'd see how brave those Texas Rangers really are, faced with Louisiana's famed 1st Alligator Cavalry! :P

3. The candidate's name is "Kinky Friedman," he's an entertainer . . .
and an author of light-gonzo fiction, and you're surprised he's a doofus? You need to work on your predictive abilities.

Just like all those alchemists refused to find the Philosopher's Stone for all those centuries.

This is why people must learn to be leery of that "vote for the man" thing. Just because they say some catchy thing that gets a laugh or pushes a political button - doesn't mean that they've got the same end game as you do. Unless living in an armed police state is your idea of paradise. Political parties are a guide that you'll end up somewhere near what you were looking for.

9. I think the criminals are back here already, Kinky
We had nine Labor Day shootings with 12 victims, four dead here in NOLA. The city's murder rate is going bat shit right now because the police are undermanned, 1/2 the city is vacant, there is a lot of money flowing around, and there are turf wars between established drug people and new forces moving in. The city is in a crime crisis right now.

The National Guard contingency sent to help is far too small (300) to do much good. Plus, they are just parked most of the time from what I see, and I work all over the most destroyed areas, where they are supposed to be. There is zero deterrent effect from the Guard...

There are at least 3 shootings per day in a region 1/3 its pre-Katrina population. Weekends are insane. The only comfort so far is that FOR THE MOST PART, if you are not involved with drugs, gangs, or some sort of crime, you are not being targeted. There have been a handful of murders where the attacker was a stranger, but it has mostly been, sadly, 14-25 year old young black men.

We need a new national strategy to stop this. It is an absolute CRISIS.

Please don't forget we still are in desperate need of help here. Most have not been paid what has been promised...Most have not returned.

11. The Kinkster had more than a few people fooled for a while
My (business) partner lives in Austin. She was hearing from a lot of her 'Dem' friends that Kinky might be a vibale alternative.

Fortunately, she's hering less of that now.
