Mortgage Moms may hold key to a Democrat win

In the Nineties the most assiduously courted group of "swing" American voters were the Soccer Moms, who swooned at Bill Clinton and swept him to a second term in office. Two years ago it was the turn of the Security Moms, the jittery post-September 11 housewives who preferred President George W Bush's macho talk to Senator John Kerry's nuanced approach.

Yesterday the new buzz category of "swing voters" was unveiled — the Mortgage Moms, cash-strapped suburbanites whose support could be crucial in deciding November's mid-term elections.

Democrats are counting on "pocketbook" issues outweighing the Republicans' traditional advantage on national security for the first time since the September 11 al-Qa'eda attacks on New York and Washington.

Step forward the Mortgage Moms, the Middle American householders whose concern over their monthly building society payments would no doubt find a hearing around many a British kitchen table. The Washington Post, which minted the phrase yesterday, described them as "voters whose sense of well-being is freighted with anxiety about their families' financial squeeze".

The GOP dragged out the "NASCAR Dad" meme when their "Security Mom" meme fizzled out and died an early and well deserved death.

They can't win without gaming the system, without massive fraud and disenfranchisement.

Some states have corrected this. Most have not.

8. Tell Me About It!! I Live In Florida & Have Been Living With This

nightmare for a very very long time. About 4 months ago we signed up the required number of petitions for paper ballots in our County, Sarasota, but it seems some of the language was 'Uh illegal or something. A few words of little significance, but still the County Commissioners nixed the idea of putting it to a vote for the November elections. Instead... it's now in litigation! Oh, just more money to be spent, just another way to hold it off here!

Even though it's said that MOST Commissioners here are total RINO's they still act weird sometimes. It's hard to get elected to anything if you're a Democrat. My next door neighbors are Democrats, but are registered as Repukes because they own a business! This place sucks "big time" and it doesn't take much to scare most timid Democrats away!

I've gone to so many meetings and come away feeling like some whacked out left wing radical Liberal! And this... among Democrats! Just yesterday I was down at our local headquarters and I was talking about how we need to be SEEN, not just sitting in an office waiting for the phone to ring. Others were in agreement, but no enthusiasm. We have gotten more active here in the Venice area and I have finally found the very FIRST Venice area Democratic Organization that's willing to do more than just sit around waiting for an election to come up. We have once a month meetings, all year round. With any luck it will continue to grow. I know there are many others who WANT to be involved, but like me have felt left out and alone most of the time. If we stick together we might make some headway and I'll be there with my big mouth! The economy has begun to make so many aware of how difficult things have become.

Still, I don't believe ANYTHING until it's a done deal! I've gotten my hopes up too many times these past 6 years and WILL NOT do it again! When I see something finalized, only then will I believe it! I no longer "hope" for ANYTHING! I don't even use the word anymore! I've lost hope and it's become a 4 letter word to me! What SO MANY in power have done to America is nothing short of DISASTER!!! And unfortunately, I have to include many Democrats in the group! I now only believe that it's up to "We The People!" Sorry for my cynicism, but I live by "reality" alone! And TRUST is another word that is almost non-existent too!

But I remain one of those "stubborn" types who just can't seem to give up, even when I know they screwed me!!!

got trashed last night. I'm half tempted to go around posting "Heather Wilson's Integrity" or something like it with arrows to the trashed signs.

They're probably Freeper larvae from the college close by.
