My morning with the Republicans...

Had an opportunity to spend some, *ahem*, casual quality time with some lower level Republican Senate strategists this AM. No exceptionally juicy details or intel to share (these folks aren't heavy hitters), but I did come away with the following impressions that I tthought were interesting:

1) They're playing the Katharine Harris thing real close to the vest. I couldn't get them to say anything bad about her, but they weren't throwing compliments her way either. Anytime her name came up, the poker faces were in full effect.

2) They love Michael Steele, and consider a Steele Senate victory a major coup. Maryland has had a Dem Senate delegation for a long time, and they think it can be played as a "tide is turning" type of thing if Steele pulls it off. Steele has been running a lot of campaign ads, and they think they are far and away more effective than Mfume's or Cardin's (in what way they didn't say). Either way, they loooovvvveee Steele.

3) They love Lieberman now more than ever and are certain Lamont will go down in flames. Republicans will have no problem crossing the aisle to vote for Joe and they don't think Lamont can manage for the "long haul" (WTF, he can't hang for two months?). One guy called him "Howard Dean Jr."

Number 3 pissed me off the most.

1. Steele is avoiding the R word

We'll see how it goes after the primaries. Who ever wins the Dem spot needs to make sure they associate him with Ehrlich and Bush.

2. Steele needs to own up to who he is!

His non-stop ads really piss me off! I find myself yelling at the television "Why don't you say you're a Republican?...quit talking about both parties working together you big liar".
Then I sit down and take a deep breath.

3. Steele's one campaign ad

never mentions that he is a Republican. He blathers on about how he understands people are fed up with Washington because it's out of touch with them and how he won't be like either party. Seeing it, not knowing what he is, one could be excused for thinking he was an independent candidate. If Steele wins the Senate seat in Maryland it will be because of major vote fraud. Oh wait, it's the Republicans, what was I thinking?
