Israeli panel: Giuliani is 'best' presidential candidate for Israel
When the tail wags the dog! I see Obama ranks last for these fools, which automatically makes Obama a great dude in my book!

Israeli panel: Giuliani is 'best' presidential candidate for Israel

By Haaretz Staff

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the "best" candidate in the 2008 race for Israel, a panel of eight Israeli experts assembled by Haaretz has determined.

Giuliani is followed by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Arizona Senator John McCain and New York Senator Hillary Clinton. Ranking bottom of the list is Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

As part of a new project, The Israel Factor: Ranking the presidential candidates" the panel will rank the candidates every month, up until the 2008 election, awarding them marks out of 10 on a series of questions that will determine which candidates are "best" for Israel.

The project is part of Rosner's Domain, and is moderated by Haaretz Chief U.S. Correspondent, Shmuel Rosner. Professor Camil Fuchs of Tel Aviv University, who is also the Haaretz pollster, is responsible for the statistical analysis of the rankings.

The panel also concluded that the chances of any of the candidates ordering future military action in Iran were not very high. Giuliani scored highest on this question, followed by Gingrich and McCain.

3. Gee, I wonder why?
That crazy McCain ranks third on the Israel list of what's best for the US.

9. Wes Clark has really impressed me with his poise under fire
Frenchie Cat posted a video of Clark on the Neil Cavuto show, and Clark hit every sleaze ball thrown at him out the park. I was impressed!

14. I can't imagine Wes Clark not playing a key role in a Democratic
Administration, were he not become the 2008 Democratic nominee. He won't be a "Yes" man like Colin Powell, or a poodle like Blair.

I see Wes Clark as a modern version of George C. Marshall, soldier and statesman.

2. We will elect a President that serves America best.
Giuliani, Gingrich, and McCain are not good for America. So we will work to defeat them.

4. We need a President that will put America first!
And one that will have considerably diplomatic skills to undo the damage that Bush has done. War should always be the last resort, and I see nothing that justifies war against Iran or Syria!

6. How about a 'best' presidential candidate for America?
Who cares what this panel thinks? Let's take care of America and it's problems first.

18. "I'm speaking as an American now, because that's who I am." Wes Clark
It's gotten to the point that Wes Clark had to remind a live studio audiance that American policy in the Mid East needs to be driven by American values and interests:

"...But yes, Israel represents a standard of freedom, a standard of literacy, a standard of Democracy which is unique in the region. But what the United States can do to advance our ideals - and I'm speaking as an American now, because that's who I am. What we can do is, we have to stand for what we believe in and our values. We don't believe in reckless bombing. We believe in humanitarian assistance. We believe in ending quarrels by the peaceful settlements of disputes, and we believe in the use of war only as a last resort. So, we have to follow our own principles, and in the process we should help Israel, but we should also be helping the government of Lebanon and the innocent civilians all through the area."

20. Can't disagree there. Last I looked, the job title was/still is
"President of the UNITED STATES" - NOT "President of Israel."

7. I wonder who the British think would be the best candidate
for their country. How about the French or the Mexicans or the Canadians? I wonder why every country in the world doesn't hold these panels and publicize the results.

No, there's no such thing as an Israel lobby is there? :sarcasm:

17. it's not comparable
because these countries are not DEPENDENT of the US

of course the French would prefer a Democratic president, but only because most of them are closer to their values than the Republican ones. There are exceptions like Eisenhower, but it has to do with the WWII. And they didn't like Johnson, but it was because of Vietnam.

Most French are not aware of what the potential Dem candidates stand for. The only one they could name would be Hillary, but it's because the Clinton name is known. They supported Kerry against Bush, but more for the fact that that "it wasn't Bush" and for his French ties than because they supported his politics.

The Israeli approach is completely different : what republican candidate would keep supporting them no matter what, no matter what THEY do. In France we mostly don't give a fuck about what Bush thinks of us. He probably knows what we think of him.

19. Forget the British.
How about San Marino or Papua New Guinea organize a panel to find out what U.S. President would be best for them.

I swear to God. We are too damn close to the Israelis to ever be a fair broker in the Middle East. That's the bottom line and this is what gets us into trouble!

8. Giuliani told the Saudis to Go Screw
When the Saudi royal family (who funded the 9/11 terrorists) wrote a check to NYC and delivered a lecture to New Yorkers about how naughty they'd been, Giuliani had the good sense to rip up the Saudi check and tell the Saudis to f&$k off.

I'm not sayin' that Giuliani would be a good president... but he did the right thing.

That's because it was too high profile: tearing it up was publicity ...

12. That's not the way I recall it. I believe it was a Saudi prince
that wrote a check for the 9-11 families, and Rudi refused the check, not because of the role of the Saudi royal family in financing Wahabbism and its radical schools known as madrassas, but because the Saudi prince had said bad things about Israel.

It was mundane New York politics, and not some altruistic or principled stand, that made Giuliani reject the check from the Saudi prince.

Rudi is scum, and he has been milking 9-11 just as much as Bush has!

10. rudy has some big baggage in his life.. please visit my unfinished
blog. It's a sordid tale of my life being publicly exposed because I had the audacity to report police misconduct and abuse in 1997.
It began with a traffic ticket for a red light. Then after watching these cops I saw that they were rigging the light to go red and then slapping drivers with tickets.
I reported this to Internal Affairs and various other police agencies to no avail. Then I called Rudy on his WABC talk radio show. rudy had detectives in my house in 2hours later viewing a videotape I made. They would look into the allegation. 26 days later the NY Daily News ran a front page story "GOTCHA" COPS TRICKY LIGHT SHOW.
That same afternoon rudy had me arrested for a 13 yr.old traffic ticket which was addressed in 1986. After 4 days of running news coverage rudy took out the Official New York City plunger and reamed me good,he pulled out my police record from dead storage and smeared me to death.
The press was all over rudy for doing that but rudy said it was legal to do. One must crush a critic (me) when he has the goods on you.
Long story short I sued rudy and settled out of court while rudy and the city laughed all the way to the bank with money from thousands of innocent drivers who were entrapped into running a light by crooked cops.

If you want to see more PM me and I'll send you my name to google. many stories there.

13. If they're going to do this once a month...
...it'll be interesting to see how the rankings change, and how they explain how changes don't de facto invalidate the whole concept.

22. Haaretz readers think that Bush Jr. is the best for Israel
Here are the poll results as of today:

Of the last five American presidents, which has been the 'best for Israel'?

Bush Jnr - 49%

Clinton - 24%

Bush Snr - 6%

Reagan - 10%

Carter - 11%

Votes: 734

http://www.rosnersdomain.com/

In terms of actual accomplishments, Jimmy Carter was the best American President for Israel, and for us as far as the Middle East conflict is concerned.

23. I think Eisenhowere was suppose to have been very even-handed.
Then it all changed at some point. Was if after the Six-Day War?

I have a very dear Jewish friend who has assured me that you can be concerned about our "too close" relationship with Israel and not be anti-Semitic. She told me that she feels the same way. I really REALLY don't want to be dragged into a war with Iran. :(
