I heard John Edwards Speak Today in New Hampshire

John was key speaker at a labor breakfast in Manchester. He was excellent. He spoke of what is happening in the Middle East, but also spoke of this country and his work fighting poverty. He spoke of what the labor movement (historically and currently) has done for the middle class in the country.

He looked great, he sounded great - very warm, genuine speaker. He said Elizabeth was doing great.

He could emerge in 2007 and sweep the early front-runners (you know who I'm talking about) off the table. Can you imagine him and McCain on a debate platform? He'd make McCain look really, really old.

24. I think it undervalues Edwards to imply that a big part of his

worth is his age or looks. It's also kind of starnge that people speak of leaders this way - whether it's the RW who really think Bush handsome or Democrats who thought Bill Clinton attractive.

25. I think it's unrealistic to suggest that people DON'T respond . . .

To an appealing, youthful, energetic, and charismatic appearance and aspect. Hence it becomes part of one's (in this case Edwards') political toolkit.

People win (and lose) elections on much more than their ideas. If that weren't so why did anyone vote for Bush after Kerry debated him? And the media -- which is, after all, an arm of the entertainment business -- is guaranteed to take notice of (and discuss) such issues.

Just looking at Edwards/McCain standing next to each other (in a debate setting, f'rinstance) could easily convince someone completely unacquainted with any topics that might be raised to prefer one over the other, based purely on appearance.

We ignore such factors at our peril.

I would put it down not to looks but media bias, terror and exploiting issues like abortion - where the winner was very likely to pick 2 or more SC justices.

we see this time out. NOT by what THEY try to sell us!! Don't get me wrong, I waited many many years for Kerry to run... I worked very hard for him... but I'm really BIG for Edwards!

He has a LOT going for him. Many have posted a lot of his pluses here before, so I won't repeat them because I just took some cold medicine and I'm getting a little sleepy!

5. I've been lucky enought to hear him speak twice.

One time was at a fundraiser for Casey in Pittsburgh this spring. The other time was in September of 2004 at a rally in Johnstown, PA (Murtha was there, also).

He's a very effective and inspiring speaker and comes off as being caring and REAL. Edwards is also quite charismatic. The atmosphere at that rally in '04 was electric!

11. If the Republicans lose the House, John Conyers is likely the new

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. I believe Conyers would initiate investigations which could lead to articles of impeachment.

Were Edwards still in the Senate, I believe he would support well-drawn articles of impeachment, especially if we gain several seats in November.

If the GOP loses both chambers, I think many Republicans would even support impeachment. In any case their numbers will be reduced and they have Bush alone to thank for it.

15. Edwards Has Not Made Position Statement

As OC pointed out, he's not in the Senate anymore.

Conyers will likely get the investigations going about NSA first to gather more evidence before making such a move.

But I'd like to see some innovation in legislation, not just focus on getting out Bush, which is why Edwards' message about health care, raising the minimum wage, etc, are resonating with the crowds. We can also continue to push for more competent leaders in general in terms of homeland and foreign security.

Edwards has not issued an official position statement, but he did say during an interview sometime back, that he would vote for censure. He talked about how he saw upclose, the knots Congress was in over the Clinton impeachment, which of course was for a much lesser situation and while he would vote for censure, he would not be expending his energies on impeachment.

"I think all of us owe a responsibility to the men and women there now to change course. It's not rocket science: what we're doing now is not working," said Edwards, who is considering whether to make another run for the Presidency. "The best way to show we're going to leave is to actually start leaving."

Edwards also said that we need to be patriotic about more than just the military; that the world needed to see our humanity as well as our strength and might.

Governor Lynch was there also - great speech by him. He really seems to be well liked.

I agree that John Edwards has a vision for all Americans, including the poor, the working class, and even the well off. It isn't about being rich, it's about living a life that should enable all Americans to be able to buy and pay for the necessities of life such as food, medicine, education. Three states in one day to talk about what needs to be fixed, is my kind of person. :)
