Are conservatives going to use impeachment fears to get out the vote?
I caught Fox News' Mike Jerrick dropping the accusation Democrats will try to impeach President Bush if they can gain control of Congress.

http://www.eyesonfox.org/?p=69

This is not the first time I've heard this accusation on Fox News. It seems to me it's going to be an RNC scare tactic to drive conservatives to the polls.

1. They Can Try But if They Do...
they will look as if they placed the GOP above the country. Afterall, it was the GOP that wanted Clinton impeached only for a screwing around with an intern and then lying about it.

This right wing fuck head lied us into war and debt, as well as fascism.

2. I would think they will do so
most of that will come via Faux News and others such as Rush, in a full blown media version of a whisper campaign. I doubt if the candidates will ever mention the "I" word. It will be done for them by the loyal shills.

3. If they do,
it might just backfire on them.

Many of us here believe that Bush should indeed be impeached. We have to persuade the rest of the country, or at least a majority.

I don't think we're that far from doing it if we can just get accurate information before the public.

4. What a nice campaign theme.
Our party and our president are so corrupt, the Democrats would impeach. Vote for us!

5. I Agree
Why wouldn't that backfire on them? There has to one or two Repugs out there who might "think." And then perhaps they will talk about it. What a sad state of affairs.

6. Vote for us
so we won't be indicted.

Vote for us so we won't have to go to jail.

Vote for us so we won't have to be held accountable.

All terrific slogans. Go for it GOP.

7. Yes, the impeachment fear is already palpable among repugs. Remember
Sean Insanity saying keeping Pelosi from being leader of the House is worth dying for? It's all about impeachment now.

8. It won't help
With Bush's incredibly low approval ratings, his own party isn't going to be upset about seeing him go. If anything, it will turn out their 30%, nothing more.

9. problem is - it will only work for those who are already likely to vote
those (GOP voters) who are disenchanted, or worse - are angry - either wouldn't mind impeachment, or really dont care.

10. They have no choice, as far as I'm concerned

If lying about making love is grounds for impeachment, how can lying about making war NOT be?

Besides, if Bush is so innocent, let the Dems try--and fail. That would put the GOP back into power in no time at all!

12. Making love?
Rocknation, I rarely find myself on the other side of an opinion than you, but I would not characterize what Clinton did as making love.

Peace.

11. I suspect Republicans will stay home and not vote.

Although there is widespread dissatisfaction with the Bush Admin as evidenced by the polling data, I doubt Rs will be able to bring themselves to vote for Ds. They also have to ask themselves if the risk of impeachment is greater or worse now as opposed to allowing BushCo another two more years unchecked to dig themselves deeper into a hole vis-a-vis corruption and incompetence.

That's why I really like Nancy Pelosi being vague yet clear enough about impeachment to those willing to listen to her words. On the Meet the Press when confronted by bully-boy Russert, she succinctly said the Dems would provide oversight which would include investigations, and if that leads to impeachment, so be it. In spite of the belly-aching from the usual suspects here at DU, I think that was brilliant. The Rs know what's coming; we don't need to hand them the sound bytes for their campaign ads.
