New book alleges Rove/Abramoff meetings; Stepfather's gay life explored
A new book by Austin-based journalist James Moore and senior Dallas Morning News political reporter Wayne Slater will report Tuesday that Karl Rove's step-father, Louis Rove, divorced his mother and lived the rest of his adult life as an openly gay man, RAW STORY has learned.

The book also alleges that Rove held streetcorner meetings with fallen superlobbyist Jack Abramoff, knowing that all visits and phones calls to the White House were logged.

"A man of almost startling intelligence, Rove is not likely to have ignored the possibility that his father's homosexuality might have figured in his mother choice to end her own life," the authors write.

A self-admitted agnostic, Rove has to date portrayed his parent's divorce and mother's subsequent death as something of a mystery.

15. Good point. I still don't like it -- digging up personal stuff and
flinging it -- but this is a powerful point.

34. But why? I'm not being obtuse; I obviously don't get your point (and
others have made the point as well).

Because someone blasts out others' personal lives, that makes his own proper political fodder? I just don't agree. I can't agree. Do you want to know why? It isn't right. I am an atheist but I also believe in turning the other cheek. Doesn't apply in politics, you say? Gandhi seemed to think it did.

 That's my opinion. :hi:

7. Rove Has Made A Career Of Trashing Peoples Personal Lives
If there is trash to bring out about Rove and his family bring it on. He wrote the book or indeed plagiarized it so stick it to him in spades. Rove has a freaky fucking weird family tell the tale. Relevance? Who the fuck cares? SLAY the fucktard. He's asked for it.

12. "Trash" includes a gay stepfather and a mother who committed suicide?
Who decides that that is trash? The same circumstances in a Democrat would evoke sympathy here.

Msongs made a good point: hypocrisy. Calling Rove's personal life "trash" is hypocrisy.

19. No Hypocrisy Rove Takes Personal History And Trashes It
If it is HIS personal history bring it to light and throw it in the trash like he does. The same circumstances in any other life would not warrant trashing but he has a history, indeed a life long calling of trashing people. Why not call him out the same way he has done countless others. Your sympathy here is most unfounded.

If Karl was the mailman with a complex past I would be completely forgiving, in fact I could care less what the fuck he does, but given his egregious and fucking malicious past I say BRING IT ON!

8. Here is a good write up about the book by James Henson.
From the Austin American Statesman. It sounds like a pretty serious picture of Rove and his role.

These are the guys who wrote Bush's Brain, and I think were responsible for The Architect about Rove on PBS in 2004.

http://www.statesman.com/life/content/life/stories/books/09/02/2rove.html

"In both books, Moore and Slater are careful to present evidence, but they make no bones about describing Rove as a man whose tactics range from the sophisticated use of up-to-the-minute campaign technology to the darker arts of rumor, innuendo, threats, stretched promises and the use of surrogates to maintain plausible deniability.

Much of what Moore and Slater write about will be familiar to anyone who follows politics in the daily papers. But they also cover ground that the mainstream news has tiptoed around, especially when it comes to the Republican Party's exploitation of anti-gay sentiment. "The Architect" dedicates two chapters to the touchier side of this subject.

Chapter 5, "Not as I Say: Gay in the GOP," discusses prominent conservatives who have been rumored to be gay and declined to confirm or deny the charge; particular attention is paid to Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman. The subject has already been grist for blogs and gay publications, but it has been handled gingerly and rarely in the mainstream media. Moore and Slater take care not to apply labels or draw clear conclusions, instead reporting on the reporting of others. They seem to conclude — reasonably, I think — that because Republicans have made gay identity a national issue, reporting such ambiguity is fair.

In Chapter 9, "A Few Simple Questions: What's in Karl's Closet?," the authors draw on interviews with gay acquaintances of Rove's stepfather, Louis Rove, as well as an interview with a circumspect Karl Rove, to reveal that Louis was openly gay after getting divorced from Rove's mother. The chapter jabs hard at Rove, pointing out that Louis Rove, who was clearly Rove's primary father figure, died in Palm Springs just as "his son was in the midst of launching the antigay issues campaign that was to lead to the re-election of George W. Bush."

10. I'm angry at Rawstory about this
Furious. Much of this book is incendiary. There is endless revelations about the Republicans using the Christian fascists to become the dominant political party. But Rawstory leads with letting us know that Rove's stepfather was gay. OK. That merits a footnote or maybe a few paragraphs in a book but it is not the most important revelations in this book. I don't care if he was gay, what I do care about is that they created an all too powerful lock on our government and they ignore global warming and make war.

14. The GOP has hurt so many good people using the anti-gay theme.
Maybe it's not so bad they are being shown for what they may be.

Read this from what I posted above.

"Chapter 5, "Not as I Say: Gay in the GOP," discusses prominent conservatives who have been rumored to be gay and declined to confirm or deny the charge; particular attention is paid to Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman. They sold ignorant voters on gays. You might not care if he was gay but guess what? Lots of stupid people do. They did not get where the are talking about issues, Rove made a career talking about queers. Demeaning them, condescending them, demoralizing them. Time for him to take a punch in the face I say.

He fucking brought the issue to the front page make him EAT SHIT.

responding to a reporter asking if he is gay, Mehlman added that his sexual orientation, whatever it is, “changes nothing” as to how the party will operate under his leadership.

25. If Mehlman's life is no one's business, the same holds true for others.
And since he is chairman of the party that is using an agenda that is hurting people, he should not complain when he is asked such things.

32. "A self-admitted agnostic" is much more powerful stuff than a gay father
First of all, who cares if his father was gay? So now we're homophobic here??

Secondly, as the spokesperson/puppet master for the "President that God Speaks To," being an agnostic is pretty embarassing. Could really be used to poke a hole in their supposed religious standing.
