The Republican Party and the opportunity of Fear...
Listening to a most excellent summation by perhaps the premier newscaster in America, one could not help but connect the Republican Party with the idea of fear as a political opportunity. Last night, Keith Olberman summed it quite well with his closing quote by Edward R. Murrow.

It seems the Republican Party, for at least a half century, has chosen to use fear to whip the American people into a frenzy of fear over one issue or another. In the 1950's, it was McCarthy and the "Communist" scare. People were so frightened they were looking under their beds for "communists". The Congress of the United went on witch hunts to destroy people's lives - lives of honest Americans.

Looking back, it appears it is always done for political opportunity. Scare the hell out of people to get them to follow your political agenda. The latest, the "war on terror", seems to be a continuation of this same politics used many years ago...
