Bush: "New Orleans...she needs those saints to come marching back..."
Katrina won't happen again: Bush
Geoff Elliott, Washington correspondent
August 31, 2006

US President George W. Bush, back in New Orleans to commemorate the day Hurricane Katrina slammed ashore a year ago, promised a "better and more effective response" in the event of another hurricane, saying Katrina exposed government failure at "all levels".

In a speech heavy with religious references, Mr Bush, a self-described optimist, tried to focus on a bright future for New Orleans but also did not shy from admitting the mistakes the federal Government made in responding to the disaster. "The challenge is not only to help rebuild, but the challenge is to help restore the soul," Mr Bush said in a speech from a high school in the city. "Sunday has not yet come to New Orleans, but you can see it ahead."

His comments are small comfort for Katrina's survivors. About 50 per cent of the city remains without electricity and just a third of the hospitals are up and running. Violent gangs are also making life miserable for those trying to rebuild.

It is estimated that about half of New Orleans's more than 500,000 residents are still dispersed around the country. "I know you love New Orleans," Mr Bush said to those former residents. "And New Orleans needs you. She needs people coming home. She needs people - she needs those saints to come marching back. That's what she needs. New Orleans is calling her children home."

12. Every last one of the displaced ought to park their trailer on the
fucking national mall in Washington, D.C., or in that Lafayette Square place in front of the white house.

5. Au contraire, it's another triumph for the Bush administration!
New Orleans hasn't been hit by another Category 5 hurricane since Katrina, has it? That means his plan is working! Try to deny that New Orleans hasn't been scrubbed off the map again, you libruls! And it's all thanks to our Great President, George W. Arrest my case.

4. Many don't want to come back.
They have already started their lives over. Many have jobs, new friends, and some have even bought homes. Why would they want to go back to destroyed houses in disaster neighborhoods to live in fear every hurricane season?

Nobody, Democrat or Republican, can absolutely promise that it won't happen again. Mom Nature says that it will, sooner or later.

6. Spin, Spin, blah, blah, blah, photo op, photo op, and more bullshit.
When is this idiot going to realize that he is supposed to "govern" this country?

His days seem to be filled with photo ops, speeches no one wants to hear, bullshit, fundraisers, and campaigning.

He is the leader (I use that term loosely) of our government and yet he cannot recognize a problem, much less solve one. He thinks that if he flies in, takes some pictures, offers up some cliche's, shakes some hands...then he has done his job. Once finished, time to move on. Forget the people he just left behind. Time for bigger and better things. Time to raise money for the GOP, talk about Is-la-mo fasc-ism. Gotta make the people nervous...keep 'em scared.

Anyone -- Anyone who supported this sorry sack of shit should be ashamed of themselves. Those who still support him, well...you are fucking hopeless cases. Let's just hope that you never need help from this idiot and his merry band of criminals.

7. Ha!
If he was being honest in his statements, I'd accept that. But he's done little to help FEMA & only luck has saved us from having another devastating hurricane hit the US.

16. All across America, highways leading to New Orleans are jammed
with tens of thousands of displaced New Orleanians who have been huddled in motels, trailers, what have you, waiting for Our Great Leader President Bush to tell them it was okay to come home.

17. Yeah, George, flog the Dead Jesus Horse just ONE MORE TIME
If you cram in enough references to the titles of old classic hymns and home and sainthood and JEEZUS, some people might forget about how many in New Orlenas and Waveland and Biloxi got "called home", you HYPOCRITICAL ASSHOLE.
