Salt Lake City Mayor is "not sweet." .....
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 04:09 PM by Sparkly
Mayor Rocky Anderson, a Democrat in a city that is considered liberal by heavily Republican Utah's standards, has accused the Bush administration of lying about the rationale for war. He has called President Bush a "complete disaster."

And on Wednesday, he organized a big protest rally a few blocks from the Salt Palace Convention Center, just hours before Bush's arrival here for an address to the American Legion.

"No more God-is-on-our-side religious nonsense," Anderson said at the rally, absorbing waves of cheers and applause from the thousands of protesters as he called Bush a "dishonest, war-mongering, human-rights violating president."

(snip)

"Rocky ought to sit behind his desk and leave the rest of the world alone. I wouldn't dream of doing things like this," said Legionnaire Lynn Beckstead, 71, of West Valley City. "If you don't like Bush, fine, but respect the office. This is a very conservative state, sweet and friendly. That's not sweet."

Yes, aren't all conservatives "sweet?" :eyes:

I wish I could quote more. The Legion wants to "unite America," but does not want any dissenting voices at their convention, and doesn't want any "public debate" there.

1. That's good.
Rocky is certainly controversial. Although I've read quotes from him talking about the LDS church that sounded very childish. Like he was a teenager rebelling against his parents. I haven't taken him too seriously since then even though he has said some good things.

4. Ask them how much they respected the office when the legislature
refused to close down on Bill Clinton's first inauguration day. Their excuse: "He came in third in Utah."
I used to live there too. I agree, nothing sweet about it!

5. News flash Mr. Beckstead
First, Mr. Anderson was protesting Mr. Bush, not the presidency. See, the presidency is an office that Mr. Bush holds temporarily. Besides, I think the institutions of our government are a leetle more durable than you seem to think. Perhaps if you spent a little more time reading the constitution you're so fond of defending, you'd sort of get a clearer picture of that. I highly recommend the First Amendment.

Unlike you, Mr. Beckstead, I have faith that America can endure, even through dissent; and perhaps especially because of dissent, upon which our nation was founded.
