Do you give money politically?
I do but I almost exclusively give locally (mostly judges, of course one has to help out the alderman, a few state ledgislature guys).

I have to give in my business. I won't get much benefit from giving nationally but I give plenty locally so I figure I have fulfilled my obligation.

Who do most people give money to?

9. Agreed
I keep what I can give to the local candidates. I won't give to the DNC or Congressional Committees.

4. I did to Howard Dean and then to the DNC. Now, I have become a Bush
satistic - unemployed and no health insurance. So unfortunately cannot give to anyone now. Wish I could.

:hi:

Its sad that people like you can no longer give to progressive causes, while Bush's billionaire buddies at EXXon etc. get richer and richer and can buy more and more power for more and more corrupt politicians :banghead:

Cycle of evil....:grr:

5. I give regularly to the DNC and to the Dems of AR. Then I give to
individual candidates across the country, if I like their stand on issues. I will no longer give to DSCC.

6. Yes
But lately, only under certain conditions, one of them being that the candidate(s) not just lie back and take crap from his or her opponent. Go on the offensive or no cash. I have donated to Braley, candidate for Congress in Iowa 1, and Chet Culver, candidate for governor in Iowa. I am contemplating giving to a young up and comer named Elesha Gayman who is running for the Iowa House in District 83. I do not live in that District, but my rep is fairly safe as she has a money machine, and I'm impressed with Ms. Gayman. Heck, she's only 28 years old and may have a bright future ahead of her. Why not get in on the ground floor?

8. I generally donate to the DNC or Kerry
and other causes as they come up.

Why do you say you "have to give"?

11. You don't live in Chicago
An angry alderman can cause a lot of mischief for a guy running a business. So a few grand every four years to keep him happy is a small price.

12. I give to environmental and animal causes right now
and a few others like "Save the Children"....

I have very little money as a perpetually broke student so I feel (rightly or wrongly) that I want to give, at the moment, to causes where I can be sure that the money I give will go towards helping something/someone.
And straight up political causes seem like a toss of a die for me :(.

But I do egg other people I know, better off people, into giving for the Dems, Air America, Bob Parry's website etc. :).

14. Never have been been as motivated to help anyone like we did Kucinich.
We gave to him until it hurt. Hardly can afford to treat others with the generosity we gave DK. Funds were high enough we made the list of names at the Federal Election Commission.
This year, plan to help Jenni Criscenzo for Congress, out in California and Mich. Gov. Grahnolm in her race against an Amway scumbag.

15. No
I worked on a campaign, and enjoyed it very much, but got to see how most funds are spent and where most of them come from.

I think the return-on-investment is much greater with sweat equity, rather than writing a check. Don't get me wrong: I'm not trashing people who donate at all....they're obviously a very important part of the puzzle. But the feeling of accomplishment is much greater and the victory is much sweeter even if you donate only an hour of your time towards helping a candidate win. You meet the kinds of people and have the kinds of experiences money can never buy.
