Remember the LBJ era, when Dems were pissed at their prez and party?
Most of us over ... what? .... 45? ..... recall the LBJ era, when he escalated greatly the Viet Nam war. Dems were pissed off - mightily. And so was the reat of the country.

I think that kinda thing is happening again, but for the Republicans and for Bush's War.

To be sure, there are differences between then and now. But the essential point is that we've seen what happens when the 'base' gets pissed at the party, not for some politcal gaffe, but for some action that is truly bad for the country.

Just one more reason I have some hope for November.

1. The difference is
the GOP milks 9-11 for all it is worth. They make Americans feel un-American for giving aything less than 100% support to Bush and his policies. Has any administration silenced dissenters more than this one?

2. But will the midterms be Bush's "New Hampshire?"
Also, the convenient "lone nut" killing of RFK after that made sure the Demo fall-out skewed to the GOP's favor. As well as Nixon's October surprise, sabotaging the Vietnamese peace talks in Paris.

The Dems have been playing by a discarded rule book ever since, however...

6. But, unlike Democrats, Republicans don't really have any values
or principles. They just want power.

So they might not be completely pleased, but they are far from outraged.

The ones who say they are are just trying to distance themselves from Bush for this election, then they will go back to kissing his ass like normal.

7. It doesn't hold water
I don't recall Democrats losing the House and the Senate. Did they?
