Bush's Miserable Vacation
Love him or hate him, President Bush is having a terrible week while trying to catch
some downtime in Maine. Watching the self-immolation of the Bush presidency is
certainly a spectacularly sad show. When this week is over and opinion polls are
taken, we are likely to see Bush close in on low thirties or high twenties in terms of
public support for his presidency. The drumbeat of bad news is incessant.

Consider the following:

* TV screens are filled with documentaries about the Federal debacle in failing to
effectively respond to hurricane Katrina ...

* A National Geographic documentary, The Final Report: Osama's Escape, hit the
airwaves this week focusing on the Bush administration's failure to catch Osama bin l
Laden ...

* The violence in iraq spiked despite repeated assurances by U.S. commanders that
things were getting better in Baghdad. U.S. soldiers are dying at a rate of 2 per day ...

* The Taleban -- the militant Islamists who controlled Afghanistan and protected
Al Qaeda -- have recaptured southern Afghanistan and are intensifying operations
in the Northern portions of Afghanistan ...

* Hezbollah remains firmly entrenched in southern Lebanon and is busy consolidat-
ing its defenses against an expected next round of Israeli attacks ...

So if Bush goes to New Orleans for some 1st anniv of Katrina photo-ops, what is he
going to do for the 5th anniv of 9-11? Fly up to NY and run bare-assed through the
ruins of Ground Zero?

1. Doesn't W have 26 weeks a year off for vacation
It's part of his patrician upbringing. Only dumb and lazy people have a few weeks off.

2. Don't forget . . .
The KY plane crash that was at least partially caused by understaffing of air traffic controllers (feds).

The Jon Benet debacle (which, granted, has nothing to do with Bush, but most people just view any bungling by govt officials as further confirmation that the country is f-ed up.)

It's back to school time, and families have to shell out a bunch of money, which further exacerbates their sorry financial situation.

It'll be ugly for the Shrub, IMO.

5. Now they can spend another few weeks on Karr...
Spending countless hours in speculation as to why he would admit to a murder he didn't commit. Bring in the shrinks and everyone else and spend weeks all the while hoping this Katrina stuff will all go away quickly.
