NYT: Ohio officials prepare to destroy paper ballots from 2004 presidential election

RAW STORY
Published: Tuesday August 29, 2006

Ohio officials will soon begin destroying the paper ballots from the 2004 presidential election despite objections from voter rights groups, according to a story slated for Wednesday's edition of The New York Times.

"Soon after the 2004 presidential election, questions emerged about how votes were tallied in Ohio, a battleground state that delivered the presidency to George W. Bush," Ian Urbina writes for the Times.

"Now, following a routine procedure, state officials are preparing to destroy the paper ballots from the election," writes Urbina.

"Critics say the ballots should be preserved for more study," the article continues.

1. Hell yeah they got to get rid of the old evidence. There's new
evidence coming up in November.

2. Destroy the evidence before someone can determine just how rotten things
are in Ohio.

Blackwell will soon be out of office and fears the next SOS may uncover the cover up from the '04 election.

If the judges in this country were not tainted one would think that someone could get a restraining order to halt the destruction.

4. this is yet another reason we HAVE to get Dems
elected in Ohio - I didn't see when the ballots were slated to be destroyed but I do remember listening to Marc Dann (Dem candidate for Ohio Attorney General) and he said the statue of limitations for prosecuting the things that happened would not expire until after the '06 elections and the inauguration of new candidates in '07. If we end up with another Republican regime - you bet your ass that every misdeed that the Repukes have pulled from the '04 vote suppression to the pay to play to the back scratching coin-gate investments will be swept under the rug. If we elect Dems (and btw - the entire State-wide slate in Ohio is stacked with people that are well qualified, have integrity, and can win) we can not only improve greatly on the situation in Ohio, but prosecute those that have committed fraud, etc. during the past several years. this is one reason the Republicans will put every dime they have into smear tactics and dirty campaigning. We have GOT to get these Dems elected.

6. Save the ballots! Save the ballots! Don't allow the evidence to be
destroyed.
