Anyone following the DEM primary fight in NY CD 17?

Pro-war incumbent Elliot Engel being challenged by community activist Jessica Flagg.

That's my home turf.... Riverdale, Mount Vernon, parts of NE Bronx ,a narrow swath of Westchester Co. along the Hudson River and a large chunk of Rockland Co.

Elliot Engel's the guy with the Groucho Marx mustache who sits in the House chamber every State of the Union waiting for four hours so he can get an aisle seat where he can get three seconds of TV time shaking *'s hand when * walks down the aisle.

Let's just say Elliot's not renowned for inspired, enlightened leadership.

Ms. Flagg's analysis has it about right:

>>>>>He supports the Bush war policies, and although he acknowledges that Bush and Cheney lied us into the war in Iraq, he is not supporting the resolutions calling for censure, impeachment or even the investigation of the administration's abuse of power and manipulation of intelligence. His silence on the abuse of power betrays us all.

His lack of initiative has weakened the Democratic party. He is not an effective representative of his constituents who do not support the "endless war" scenario being foisted on us by the war profiteers, by the neo-cons running the state department and by the "Rapture-Right" Christians who believe Jesus will save them, and one third of the Jews who will convert at "end times" (destruction of the world).>>>>>>>

As you may surmise, this district has been notoriously 'easy to please' in the past... in a political sense. But the war and Engel's war-without-end foreign policy mentality may be shocking ( and "awing"?) some folks to their senses.

Keep your fingers crossed. The primary is Sept 12.

And Flagg is no Ned Lamont so I'm sure any money that came her campaign's way would be needed, appreciated and put to good use.
