Democratic officials in Rep. Lewis' district tell NOW that their campaign is on "life support". Democrat Patrick Kahler says, "Talking to my neighbors, they don't see this as a problem, and it doesn't effect their lives, so why should they care? You know, I think that's what Congressman Lewis is realizing is what's happening--he's hoping he can get away with it. I guess, unless he's in a courtroom or behind bars, nobody is going to stand-up to Lewis."

1. It's called "frog-boiling"

Add to that the general feeling that nobody can do anything about ballot box corruption, so they wind up basically parroting Clayton Williams' infamous line about rape and the weather.

2. Talk to a hundred people...

and I betcha 80 of them just say "What's the big deal-- all politicans steal. That's why they pay millions to get a job that pays a little over a hundred grand."

Back when Jimmy Walker was Mayor of NYC, he was leading a T. Patrick's parade and someone yeleed from the sidewalk "How much did ya steal today."

He yelled back "Slow day, only a few thousand."

Another Walker story was when he was addressing a woman's group, one of the proper ladies asked him if he was circumcized. He answered that he preferred wear it off, and was again lionized as a great wit.

I'm sure everyone has their Louisiana, Chicago, Phildelphia, Newark, San Francisco... stories about the great thieves in office. And it don't mean squat to the voters.
