My job went to India
And all I got was this lousy t-shirt.

The outsourcing happened a few months ago. I'm now employed again, but this morning I was wearing a t-shirt from the old job and made the above joke to my wife. A light went on! Cafe Press!

So now I have a store, and I'm selling that t-shirt, along with some others a bumper sticker:

Please tell me what you think.

2. Thanks.
I came up with that a while ago. I made that sign for my car window on my computer. Lots of positive response from other motorists. I finally decided to do this with it.

10. I love it
Right now, I have a Basic Store (the cheap kind, for cheap people like me) (as in free). That limits me to one item of each kind. If I actually sell stuff and want to start "stocking" more, I'll look into upgrading to the type of store you pay for -- Premium, or whatever it's called.

Or maybe open multiple stores. I don't remember what the rules are on that. They do have quite a few rules!

4. I love it.
I don't know if the younger DU'ers know it, but back in the late 70's, nearly every tourist spot had a t-shirt that said "My parents went to _____ and all they got me was this crummy t-shirt."

5. It was an 80's thing too-
Except the t-shirts I got all said "lousy T-Shirt" instead of crummy!

Why not move to India?
food and shelter are really cheap there.

is it that their immigration laws don't allow it?

7. So much for fair trade
A college education is free there, too.
But India is still considered a third world country. They do not have the labor laws we have in the US.
I don't know if the government of India gives work visas to anyone from other countries. Their unemployment rate must be pretty high if they can afford to send so many trained and talented professionals here to work.

8. It may not be that they can't use those trained individuals there
So much as that those individuals choose to go elsewhere.

But then they would not if they could get a business started in India, so there may be factors that prevent it that we can only guess at. The caste system could be an issue, maybe?

The US brain drains most third world countries, and then complains about it, like it somehow harms the US.

9. That would not be a minor or simple matter for me
Be that as it may, I was doing my job very well at BEA Systems, and so were the other people who were hit by outsourcing. BEA was doing very well, too, but like most corporations was greedy for more.

I really don't want to see us accept a system where jobs move around the world, chasing the lowest wages, and workers must either move to chase their jobs, or else stay at home and be unemployed or underemployed.
