Shays: "The people fighting this war are doing the Lord's work"
"I'm not distancing myself from the president," he said. "I believe this is a war we have to win. The people fighting this war are doing the Lord's work."

But to political observers, Shays' new position on the war is the clearest signal yet that Republican incumbents — particularly those in liberal states in the Northeast — are on the defensive.

Diane Farrell, Shays' Democratic challenger, came within four points of unseating him in 2004. This week she said, "I think it is unfortunate it took him 14 trips and three years to recognize that Iraq has been in a constant state of turmoil since the day that Baghdad fell."

9. And this is what the gop offers as a "moderate"
"Shays becomes the third Republican lawmaker from a Democratic or swing state to distance himself from the Bush administration's war policy. With public support for the war sagging and many Democratic candidates vocally opposing it, Republicans in tight races in blue states are under particular pressure."

3. And I've heard RWers try to claim that the war has nothing to do
with religion or Christianity!

Our hometown newspaper's message board is having a similar discussion. One LTTE said we need to "convert all the muslims". Of course the banter eventually gets around to this point, in which the RW says the war in Iraq or Afghanistan is not about Bush's Christianity, but security, and then Shays comes out and says this. So we must be killing people in the Lord's name. No wonder some of them hate Christians, especially if Christians are standing by and letting it happen.

Around the World are with Mark Twain on this pandering and gratuitous propaganda:

"God's servant and yours has prayed his prayer. Has he paused and taken thought? Is it one prayer? No, it is two -- one uttered, the other not. Both have reached the ear of Him Who heareth all supplications, the spoken and the unspoken. Ponder this -- keep it in mind. If you would beseech a blessing upon yourself, beware! lest without intent you invoke a curse upon a neighbor at the same time. If you pray for the blessing of rain upon your crop which needs it, by that act you are possibly praying for a curse upon some neighbor's crop which may not need rain and can be injured by it.

"You have heard your servant's prayer -- the uttered part of it. I am commissioned of God to put into words the other part of it -- that part which the pastor -- and also you in your hearts -- fervently prayed silently. And ignorantly and unthinkingly? God grant that it was so! You heard these words: 'Grant us the victory, O Lord our God!' That is sufficient. the *whole* of the uttered prayer is compact into those pregnant words. Elaborations were not necessary. When you have prayed for victory you have prayed for many unmentioned results which follow victory--*must* follow it, cannot help but follow it. Upon the listening spirit of God fell also the unspoken part of the prayer. He commandeth me to put it into words. Listen!

"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen."

We got the same OLD MEN promoting the same OLD FEARS(Commies = Terrorists).

12. Christianity and politics
Who is on first?

For me, my Christianity comes first. In fact, my politics is guided by my Christian faith.

Therefore, I can not politically endorse this war, because to do so would violate my Christianity.

And woe unto them who try the claim that my God has endorsed this war.

6. You know there is something wrong with both Katherine Harris and
this guy Shays confuse US government decisions with the aims of any one religion. I don't think there will be anyone with a clear mind stepping in the way of impeachment the day that George Bush makes it clear that Iraq and Iran are his holy war.

10. Awful Hitlerish...........
'I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord's work'.

Hitler - 1936 Reichstag Speech

If we substitue 'Islamists' or 'Muslims' for 'Jews' - we got George W. Bush's regime......

Similarities are scary.....

11. Sure, remember this quote form the new testament
And Jesus said to the hungry and poor gathered before him, "Whoever kills in my name will forever sit at the right hand of the father." Oh wait I made that up.
