Kerry answers WSJ editorial claim "Lamont Wing is a Threat to Security"

Lamont Has the Courage To Defy Bush and the War
August 25, 2006; Page A15

The sentiments expressed in "The Lamont Wing Is a Threat to Security" (Letters to the Editor, Aug. 22) will do nothing to make America safer. If the neoconservatives were half as good at fighting the war on terror as they are at misleading the American public, we'd be a lot safer than we are today.

The disastrous policy in Iraq has made America less safe. We were misled into a war which has become a dangerous distraction, and a profound drain on our financial and military resources. Nearly five years after the attacks of 9/11, it's clear that this administration hasn't learned the real lessons of 9/11 and failed to take the steps to make us as safe as we must be. Osama bin Laden is still on the loose. The 9/11 Commission's recommendations to secure our most vulnerable infrastructure remain virtually ignored. Homeland security funding has been cut for cities such as Boston and New York. Staying the current course in Iraq is not making the American people any safer at home or abroad and has hurt our fight in the war on terror.

Ned Lamont has had the courage to stand up to George Bush and make this cause a central part of his campaign. That's why Connecticut Democrats chose him over Joe Lieberman. Mr. Lamont will be tough and smart about our national security. He's boldly stepped forward to demand a winning strategy from Washington and he has put forward concrete ideas. Mr. Lamont vigorously supported the war in Afghanistan and will help restore America's focus on destroying Osama bin Laden and the enemies who actually attacked us on 9/11. He won't stand by and allow Afghanistan to continue to descend back into chaos. He'll fight for increased funding to protect our ports that have been left vulnerable and he'll fight to restore the cuts to the veterans' budget for our heroes coming home from Iraq. In fact, continuing the current course is a grave threat to our security and we'll be stronger with Ned Lamont in the Senate.

Sen. John F. Kerry (D., Mass.)
Boston

1. Every Democrat, from every wing of the Party, has got to start
sounding like this! I don't care whether you agree with Kerry or Lamont or Nelson. If the Democrats do not start at least sounding the way John Kerry is sounding we will lose again.
Harry Truman never took the gloves off, because he never put the damned things on in the first place. You want to fight a Democrat, then by god it's bare knuckles, you sons of bitches!

the crucial backup of the candidate that is necessary to counter the GOP and the GOP-controlled media.

The Repubs do it unquestioningly for their elections, while Dems who have the ability to influence the debate, choose to not use it to back up OTHER Dems with their necks on the line.

4. We've got to fight for every vote we get
With the complicit media slanting things to the right every Dem who can should be on the offensive between now and the election. No retreat, no surrender, and no assuming that the GOP is going to just melt away in shame because of Bush.

Good for Kerry--let's hope the rest are lined up to do the same!

letters of support like the one mentioned.

The specific letter was from a LOBBYIST who is also the prez of an insurance company in California - big surprise.

Hewre's a sample:

>>>>
We have reached a tipping point in this country -- if we allow the American left to govern as the majority our country is finished. Republicans will have no one to blame but their inept leaders, incapable of pointing out the obvious -- the greatest threat to our freedom, security and prosperity in America today is the Ned Lamont wing of the Democrat Party.

Michael Der Manouel Jr.
Fresno, Calif.

14. Now that is one hysterical dude.
"the greatest threat to our freedom, security and prosperity in America today is the Ned Lamont wing of the Democrat Party"

I am actually amazed at how much the republicans love Lieberman. I knew he was bad ever since he did his sanctimonius finger wagging at Clinton, but based on the recent fervent republican support I think I may've underestimated just how bad.

17. Now the Repugs are in panic mode
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 09:05 PM by PresidentWar
Can you tell? "If (the Left) wins, America is finished." Har har. As if much more could be done to screw this great nation up. Well Mr. Insurance Man was right about one thing: Something HAS tipped in the country - its the mood of the people who are finally fed up with 10-12 years of Rethug mis-rule.

Now, Mr. Insurance Man, sit back and embrace the horror. You earned it.

19. Straight Republican plant
according to the www.fec.gov site, under the name
Der Manoeul, Michael
Fresno, California

We come up with, among numerous Repub contribtuions:

DER MANOUEL, MICHAEL
FRESNO, CA 93711
CRP/TREASURER

CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY/VICTORY 2006
03/02/2001 1500.00 21990122828

CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATION - 2004
01/29/2004 770.00 24990509863

Gee, I wonder why a Delegate to the RNC in '04 and the Treasurer of the California Republican Party in at least 2001 would defend Bush? Wonder why the WSJ didn't mention any of that and put him in as just another John Q. Public?

10. Hah - it turns out to be tagteaming from Clark and Kerry.
Clark wrote a letter, this LOBBYIST replied to Clark, and Kerry is batting it back at the lobbyist.

Kerry's camp must have known the guy attacking Clark and Lamont wasn't just a regular citizen.

16. IMO, they have always been the best one-two team out on the stump.
It's like watching Kerry-Kennedy in senate battles or Alito filibuster. Clark fits right in, imo.

13. I've been impressed that Kerry is becoming so outspoken...It's good for
us Dems...who need lots of help..and support wherever we can get it. He's been very articulate and visionary in supporting our Party in the last weeks.

It's a "good thing." Wonderful for him to do it!!!! Average Americans KEEP ASKING...WHERE ARE THE DEMS?

When Kerry speaks out like this...they KNOW where the DEMS ARE!!!

22. He's been outspoken for 40yrs now. The corpmedia doesn't like for people
to know what he's saying all the time, so the outspoken Senator is forced to use other venues, like with Letters to the Editor in order to speak out for the chance his words will be heard.

I love it when our Dems kick ass like this. Bush is the threat to security not Lamont.
