Watching Hannity & Colmes finally pays off: Coulter shut down.

About 25 minutes through the show, Colmes sit-in, being very precise, shut Ann Coulter up to the point that Ann looked around, said she'd leave, and apparently un-miked and walked off, and they ended the segment with the liberal guest's final response.

It was like watching someone fight off a vampire with garlic and courage!

I'll try to supply a link, because it was a fine and telling moment of theater, coming on the heels of Hannity demanding a SPECIFIC list of SPECIFIC things that Democrats would do to make us safer.

Ann Coulter, who specializes in vitriol toward others, was so flustered by a few tough questions on Hannity & Colmes last night (8/24/06), that she left the interview.

Kirsten Powers, substituting for Alan Colmes, pressed Coulter over remarks she made during the first of a two-part discussion on the effect of the war in Iraq in the upcoming elections. During that segment, Coulter let forth a stream of her trademark invective: “(Democrats) consider it unfair to talk about national security… What part of the war on terrorism do they support?... (Terrorists) would be much happier with the policies of the Democrats.” That part of the discussion is available on FOX News’ website.

After the break, Powers confronted Coulter on those accusations, starting with questions about why the Bush Administration hasn’t caught Osama bin Laden. Coulter was obviously flummoxed and gave the ridiculous answer that the war in Afghanistan is going so swimmingly that bin Laden has become irrelevant. From Coulter’s point of view, it went downhill from there. Powers, whom I have criticized in the past for her ineptitude as a pundit, was in top form and refused to let Coulter off the hook. Powers continued pressing her case and Coulter soon crumbled. The woman who loves to dish it out, couldn’t take the heat. It’s worth noting that Powers never resorted to anything like the sort of diatribe Coulter doesn’t leave home without. Nevertheless, Coulter couldn’t finish the interview.

Also worth noting are the lies told by Sean Hannity when he claimed that the Patriot Act was “killed by the Democrats.” As Hannity almost certainly knows, the Patriot Act, which was not killed at all but temporarily blocked last winter by a bi-partisan group of senators because the Bush Administration refused to make modifications more protective of civil liberties. One of the Republican senators involved in the opposition, Senator John Sununu of New Hampshire, appeared on Hannity & Colmes to discuss his position. So there’s no way Hannity did not know that it was a bi-partisan effort. Hannity also misrepresented Democrats’ position as blanket opposition to NSA wiretapping and data mining when he almost certainly knows just as well that the opposition is doing it WITHOUT A WARRANT.

20. Remember when Malloy walked off a Faux News set?

This was a couple of years ago, on that show with the always-creepy John Kasich.

Kasich and some wingnut were teaming up against Malloy, and then they turned his mike off, so Malloy got up and walked off the set. They kept the camera on him the whole time, and the host and the guest took Malloy's departure as a sign of weakness or cowardice. So they continued to bash him in absentia. It was ugly.

Compare that with what happened tonight. After the TKO from the Colmes replacement (which was a reminder that Clinton was NOT the president on 9/11), Coulter started looking around, said something like "Good night!" and the camera was then taken off of her. Then the "Dem strategist" was left with a minute or so to make his point (which didn't need to wander off to Tim McVeigh, but it was what it was) and the segment ended there. Coulter was off-camera, and Hannity was likely off-mike talking to Coulter, but the Dem and the Colmes stand-in did not get the chance to bash away at her like Kasich did with Malloy.

Fair and Balanced? Not when Ann Coulter is involved. She seemed off-guard without her ennabler Colmes there. Good. He's just a punching bag, anyway.

with Hannity that Hannity got into extra-shoutdown mode with him. Brown looked very good by comparison.

Kirsten ______ wouldn't let Coulter get away with blaming Clinton and dismissing bin Laden, and Annie tossed a few insults at her (and Colmes), wouldn't answer, so she went to Brown, who calmly gave the last resonse, while clearing being aware of Annie stalking off and the on-set confusion.

Kirsten Powers shows up a lot on O'Reilly's show and, of course, sometimes on Hannity & Colmes. To be frank, she's usually a light wight. In fact, she wasn't so great with Coulter. She was just imitating Hannity's interruption 'debate' tactic and not nearly as effectively. Which is what makes it so funny. Ann Coulter is such a complete weenie!

Coulter sits there grinning from ear to ear as Hannity gives a liberal the 10th degree but when she gets merely the 4th degree she's can't stand it.

What I really enjoy about Coulter is how she always rolls her eyes looking for that random though in her empty cranium to toss out. She's always been one of the worst debaters in history. It surprises me she isn't chased off sets more often.

It seems to me that Colmes could turn up the heat now and quit being a Fox lap dog. I remember when Colmes was on the radio before he was with Fox years ago. He was my hero. He seemed to be the only person on radio that had the guts to speak truth to authority. As soon as he became a part of Fox, he turned to milk-toast.

If Colmes could turn up the heat and become what he used to be, Fox would find themselves in a difficult situation. Would they fire him? No hardly...it would be to obvious.

Colmes must step up to the plate.
