Live From Planet OH RIGHT SURE... It's President Pinhead W. Bush!
It's a three-exclamation-point BushCo week: Terrorists are coming to a mall near you!!! There is no housing bubble!!! It's not about oil (but, hey, we do have to protect the oil, you know)!!! There's no Saddam-9/11 connection (even if we said so a brazillion times)!!! This week, bloggers are asking which planet this pinheaded president of ours is living on, and it's obviously not Earth. Since the planet formerly known as Pluto has been downgraded - practically to space rock status - my guess is Planet OH RIGHT SURE.

First, Some Good News (From Planet Earth)

In a week that had Bush warning that terrorists would attack us in our towns if we left Iraq, Dob Bole compiled a nifty list of glad tidings (and lots of great links) for us in his journal. This earth-based list has some delicious goodies, including:

THERE ARE ONLY FOUR RED STATES!

Connecticut Democrats give Lieberman the BOOT

Pat Robertson now believes in global warming

In a Congress with a 99% incumbency rate, two GOP candidates have withdrawn from the ballot

There's even more good news from Maria at LiveJournal, who finally gets to say, "Buh Bye, Murkowski!" In an interesting side note, Wash Park Prophet writes that Murkowski, the second least popular governor (Ohio's Taft is the front runner), was thrown under the bus by his party Tuesday.

Corrupt Republican Governor of Alaska Frank H. Murkowski is the second least popular Governor in the United States, after Ohio Governor Bob Taft who was convicted of crimes related to his public office late last year, but hasn't resigned. The members of his party decided it was time to throw Murkowski under a bus yesterday.

Murkowski had just 19 percent of the vote to Palin's 51 percent and Binkley's 30 percent. Longshot candidates Gerald L. Heikes and Merica Hlatcu split the remainder of the GOP vote.

Murkowski is now a lame duck, so is Taft.

Republican primary winner Sarah Palin, a former Wasilla mayor, will face the Democratic nominee, former Gov. Tony Knowles (1994-2002), in November.

All together now: buh-bye, Bush lover.

Meanwhile, Back On Planet OH RIGHT SURE...

There Is No Housing Bubble!!! Housing Doom has the 411 on the Fed's denial that there is a (cough) problem:

While we have so far mostly avoided discussing housing prices, our findings do suggest that to the extent that house prices have grown considerably in recent years, this is not due to unusually excessive speculation in the housing market, such as would occur in a bubble.

With many analysts maintaining that the Federal Reserve's loose monetary policy fueled the housing bubble, the paper appears to be the Fed's attempt to say, in layman's terms: "It ain't no bubble, so it ain't our fault."

Fisher and Quayyum's assertion flies in the face of mounting evidence. In May of last year Alan Greenspan stated, "We don't perceive that there is a national bubble, but it's hard not to see that there are a lot of local bubbles."

Here on Earth, however, if you want the truth about the housing bubble, Housing.com is the site for you. Also bookmark-worthy is a recent post from Truthout's Dean Baker:

How far and fast prices will fall is difficult to know at this point, but a few things are predictable. Housing construction and sales will drop back toward trend level. Housing construction is already down by 15 percent from its peak. It is likely to fall at least this much more before stabilizing. Sales of existing homes, which are the life-blood of the real estate industry, are also likely to fall by 30-40 percent from peak levels.

In addition, the borrowing spree of the last five years is likely to come to an abrupt end as stagnant or declining home prices cut off this important source of credit. There is evidence that we are already seeing the effects of this credit squeeze, as credit card debt has begun to soar in the last few months. Families who can't get the money they need by borrowing against their homes will turn to credit cards as the best available alternative. This does not paint a pretty picture for the economy. If housing construction and sales fall back to trend levels, it would mean a loss of more than 2 million jobs. The decline in consumption that will result because people can no longer borrow against their homes will have an even more dramatic impact on the economy. The financial system will also be shaken by an unprecedented wave of mortgage defaults.

How does losing 2 million housing-related jobs (on top of those already sucky outsourced and downsized jobs numbers) sound? Forget the shades. The future of President Pinhead W. Bush's economic marvel doesn't look the least bit bright.

Also on Planet Earth... Have you seen the Cafferty NSA video yet? If not, why not? Crooks and Liars has it. Here's a snippet from the transcript:

Cafferty: You know Wolf, it seems like were having this discussion about this judge's ruling sort of in the abstract, as if there's no precedent for what the judge decided. The judge in effect upheld the ruling of the FISA court which says that 'if you want to wiretap phones you need a warrant to do so'. The court was created by Congress in 1978 I think it was and the law of the land says, "Get a warrant". The actions of the administration have ignored the law of the land in that regard. So it's not a discussion in the abstract. It's not hypothetical. There are laws on the books against what the administration is doing and it's about time someone said it out loud.

Bush poll numbers are up! No, wait! They're down! Want to keep up with Bush's approval ratings? Consult The Carpetbagger Blog. While you're there, stay for the brilliant commentary.

President Pinhead Or President "Rain Man?"

Andy at The Ostroy Report minces no words, takes no prisoners, and eats the wounded when he describes George W. Bush's humiliating behavior this week:

He bobbed, bounced and chortled, flailed his arms, shouted, pleaded, whined, was stubborn, constantly repeated himself, made ridiculous statements, and acted fidgety and restless as if he just downed five straight fruit juice boxes. No, this wasn't some petulant 5-year-old we're talking about. It was President Bush, as he bizarrely addressed reporters Monday in a marathon press conference that offered up nothing but the same old incendiary rhetoric and weapons of mass deception.

If you liked Ostroy's dissection of the president, you'll love Jon Stewart's reaction. One Good Move] has the video.

Let's All See What The Freeper Sees

Ever wondered what a freeper (on his/her home planet) sees when s/he looks at the New York Times? At The Huffington Post, seeing what the freeper sees only takes a few clicks of the mouse. The result: hilarious. (No exclamation point necessary.)

Psst! Want to see President Pinhead pitch a hissy fit? Click &t=OEgsToPDskL-pusTyHPcI6LK4eg5QURT">here.

Oh, and by the way… Bush finally admits the truth this week: it's the oil, stupid. Mish at Global Economic Trend Analysis has the money quote:

"Leaving before we complete our mission would create a terrorist state in the heart of the Middle East, a country with huge oil reserves that the terrorist network would be willing to use to extract economic pain from those of us who believe in freedom," Bush said.

I believe that speaks for itself. The rough translation is "It's the oil, stupid!"

Oddly enough there were few terrorists in Iraq before we got there.

Read the rest of the post. Mish also has Bush's 12 point plan for Iraq. Caution: do not consume liquid while reading this.

Keeping Up With The Rapturists

In case you missed the antics of the Religious Right this week, Political Cortex has the righteous roundup, and it's a real doozy. Here's a snippet:

Bartholomew's Notes on Religion

Bartholomew reports that Jerry Jenkins, the co-author of Tim LaHaye's Left Behind series of novels, says, (in an apparent effort to deflect criticism of the controversial forthcoming video game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces), that "It's not more violent than the Old Testament."

No more violent than the Bible? That's your defense? Hmm. Time to rethink those R movie ratings, y'all.

Thank A DUer!

When splat@14 posted this pic of Katherine Harris...

...Syncronaut Seven replied:

"What a hot babe! Is she fluent in Klingon?"

Sigmund Freud Bush? TechBear_Seattle posted this Horsey toon:

Sugar Smack notes Bush's message to the people of New Orleans on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's devastation:

And finally, there's LynneSin's rapture smilie:

The "Vera Wang Is Weeping" Award

I usually reserve this award for Laura Bush, but this week Bush (of the blue blazer and brown trousers) had the nerve to insult the wardrobe of the Palm Beach Post's blogger. Truly heavy sigh.

Back To School On Planet OH RIGHT SURE

Back to school stuff sure is different in the Bush era. An Inventor teaches us what the kids now need. Here's an item President Pinhead can use even today:

Don't Let Anyone Get Away With a Silent Fart

Fart Detector

It's one thing to pass a toot and take ownership. It's quite another to pretend it was someone else breaking wind around you. Never let anyone falsely accuse you of lacking wind control. Anytime someone tries to quietly pass some gas, pull out your handy Fart Detector. You can make sure the person who is the stink culprit is quickly brought to everyone's attention, and you can even tell them in quantifiable terms how really noxious they are.

Farting is something every true man would be proud of. Your are doing the fart culprit a favor by forcing him to accept his role as a man in the world.

And we all know that Bush thinks he's all man.

Summer Reading List For Dems

Forget that fluffiness-filled craptacular story about Bush and Rove trying to outread each other. (Puh-leeze.) Arm yourself with the facts (you'll need them this fall). Bill in Portland Maine's Wednesday Cheers & Jeers (at DailyKos) lists all of Bush's Saddam-9/11 statements (or damned near all of them). Click for the list, but stay for the rest of the cheers and jeers. There are some real gems this week.

Jay Esbe's 34 Talking Points for Dems at OpEdNews is another must-read. Here are five of the points:

5. Is the United States safer with the Taliban back in Afghanistan and not enough troops because of Iraq?

6. Was America prepared on September 10th 2001 with Bush explicitly warned and supposedly in charge?

7. Was New Orleans safer with Bush in charge?

8. Do you like being told that if you don't support Republicans, you're "on the side of the terrorists"?

9. Did Bush "solve the middle east problem" or is it now erupting in flames?

The other 29 points are just as powerful. Read them, bookmark them, and use them.

Yes, I'm sad that Pluto is no longer a planet - in fact, part of me suspects that this is a fiendish plot perpetrated by BushCo to make Brother Neil's educational software company another million… or twenty. This week, let's start asking Bush lovers the burning question: "What planet are you living on?" Sure, it's schoolyard snotty, but is it worse than anything President Pinhead W. Bush reads from his Planet OH RIGHT SURE note cards? I don't think so. And neither do this week's bloggers. So there, President Pinhead!!!

5. Just run your cursor over the headlines.....
it's still dark, it doesn't get any lighter but the headlines change dramatically when you use the "freeper filter". You just have to look closely, they're pretty dark.

7. Language Is Well Crafted
To understand more thoroughly how language works, we can
certainly agree that Bush is a pinhead. He's got most of us
pinned under his plutocratic regimes dirty fists.
As for plutocracies, you could say PLease, U TOw for
awhile, those of us at the middle and bottom are a little
tired of being slaves and soldiers.
As the Grateful Dead would say, at least for now,
"...that's all I had to say, but its alright."
