Rove: Warrantless wiretaps might have prevented 9/11

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Presidential adviser Karl Rove criticized a federal judge's order for an immediate end to the government's warrantless surveillance program, saying Wednesday such a program might have prevented the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Rove said the government should be free to listen if al Qaeda is calling someone within the U.S.

"Imagine if we could have done that before 9/11. It might have been a different outcome," he said.

Rove's comments came as he headlined a fundraiser for Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who is running for governor. About 50 protesters stood outside the country club where the fundraiser was held, some with signs that said "Impeach Bush."

5. IDIOT! THESE PEOPLE HAVE SERIOUS LACK OF READING & COMPREHENSION SKILLS-
SEND THEM ALL BACK TO FREAKIN GRADE SCHOOL!

Sorry for the shouting, I am just completely fed up with this s***.

There is NOTHING, repeat NOTHING in the FISA Act which has ever prevented them from listening to Al qaeda or ANYONE, even without a warrant so long as its obtained after the fact.

6. They're not idiots; they're malevolent.
They know perfectly well that what they're saying is bullshit -- but they'll say/do anything to get what they want.

12. yes I know -its bullying- same as used by my emotionally abusive ex
pretend to not hear what youre saying and attack you for something you didn't even say.

But still, to me, a reasonably intelligent and well read person, it really does come across as stupidity-- intellectual laziness. Cant be bothered to consider reality and the facts.

9. Then why didn't you?
Law Schmaw you guys don't care about silly laws and you have said so on many occassions. What would have prevented you from ignoring laws then?

Ohh one last thing-What happened to "We would have moved heaven and earth..." as Condi said? Did simple little laws that you don't care about anyway get in your way?

Please.

10. Where the hell is our press?
This kind of bull should be picked apart by those that report it - as opposed to being transmitted verbatim.

CNN (Children's News for Numbskulls) is bad enough. To listen to the American edition is akin to hearing a 6th grade video for backwards children. But the WRITTEN press has fallen so low as to be 6 feet underground.

Without a responsible press we're screwed.

14. They could have wiretapped without a warrant
for up to three days, and probably got an extension for good cause, they could have went before the congress if they thought for some reason that was not good enough and changed the law. They could have listened to the outgoing Clinton Administration when they warned them about the threat from Al Queada. They could have actually read the Presidential Daily Briefing warning about Al Queada planning an attack. They could have actually kept the troops in Afghanistan until they caught Osama Been Forgotten instead of diverting 130,000+ of them to fight a guerrilla war based on lies in the desert of Iraq chasing a mirage.

I believe the only people they want to wiretap without any judicial oversight or warrant is the Democratic Party.

15. President Gore may have prevented 9/11
He would have been less ignorant, arrogant and listened to Presidential daily Briefings.

Note to Rove: If my aunt had nuts she would be my uncle!

19. "might?" Hey Karl -- your boy reading that memo WOULD have helped
With his level of attention, it wouldn't have mattered if you personally had been listening in on every domestic phone call in the country -- because he didn't connect the dots in time. (And if he had, the existing laws would have been enough.)

22. Preventing 9/11
What might've prevented 9/11 is not having a nazi police state, but having a prez who cared enough to actually read the goddamned presidential daily briefing that warned of an attack.
