AP-- White House Dismisses Third - Term Talk
They seriously asked them? The headline alone almost gives one a heart attack!

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Bush-Third-Term.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A third term for President Bush? No thanks, his staff says.

''Believe me, I think staff thinks that two are plenty,'' White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday, suggesting people are being worn out by the demands of the job.

Even Bush seemed taken aback when a supporter, Rockey Vaccarella, said he wished the president could have another term.

''Wait a minute,'' the president interrupted.

Even if he wanted another term, Bush would be barred by the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution which says no person can be elected president more than twice.

1. interesting phrasing
"no person can be elected president more than twice." we all know he wasn't elected even once. think that's the strategy?

2. Good point -- but he won't be "elected" the third time either... Would
have to steal it again or declare martial law and make himself dictator for life -- which, knowing him and Cheney, they just might. We are at war, you know, and we do know about those Democrats and terrorists...

maybe the NYT will be nice - so we can be informed - and ask Laura if she will be running.

4. How can you have a third term when the second one never ends?
I have been saying it for some time ... if you "can't change horses in mid-stream", meaning during war time, and we're in the "Never-ending War on Terror (tm)", and Bush refuses to leave Iraq under his term, ...

and the Constitution means nothing to him ...

So what's to stop him from suspending the need for more Presidential elections???

6. Obviously....
He was never elected...and
* has been on vacation mostly since he stole into office....his office help can be replaced....they're worn out because he doesn't do anything....
If he was taken aback, the surprise he expressed was fake...we all know he'd like to be prez forever...

10. Bush seeking a third term is almost a legitimate question
One could point out the the Constitution, via the 22nd Amendment, limits the President to two terms; but since when did the Constitution stop Bush from doing what he wanted?

Besides, the 22nd Amendment says that the President cannot be elected to more than two terms. There is some question about whether Bush has ever been elected at all.

11. A third term with Bush would mean I would have to leave the country.
I just don't think I could handle another term. I can't wait till this nightmare term is over.

13. Can you believe this???
Like it's something to be SERIOUSLY considered? Like the plans for third term are on the drawing board waiting to see if the logistics can be worked out?

It's unbelievable that a major newspaper like the NY Times has printed this!

17. chill
Some bush buttlicker says he wishes chimpy could serve a third term. It gets reported. It doesn't amount to a hill of beans. It certainly doesn't amount to something being "SERIOUSLY considered". Chill.

15. I almost wish he could run again!!
there's a reason FDR was the only President to be elected more than two times..because running for more than two terms has never been popular! Something tells me that even FDR wouldn't of gotten elected to a third and fourth term, if not for the Great Depression and WWII.

But even Democrats recognized that FDR needed to be the last President for more than two terms. This isn't a partisan issue, and if Bush ran for a third term..Republicans across the nation would pay the price!
