What Happens If The 22nd Article Of Amendment To Constitution Is Repealed?
i heard about this a couple weeks ago and i don't think we should forget about this--

just another reason why 2006 is so important:

"IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

February 17, 2005
Mr. HOYER (for himself, Mr. BERMAN, Mr. SENSENBRENNER, Mr. SABO, and Mr. PALLONE) introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JOINT RESOLUTION
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the 22nd amendment to the Constitution."

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.J.RES.24.IH:

and this from a 2005 article:

"Republicans have officially started the the campaign to amend the Constitution by repealing the 22nd Amendment - the one that confines the President to two terms. If the Republicans hold their current strength, or increase it, in the 2006 Congressional elections, expect this measure to pass allowing Bush to remain President..."
http://www.okimc.org/newswire.php?story_id=847

here's the part that i find HAUNTING!

"If the Republicans hold their current strength, or increase it, in the 2006 Congressional elections, expect this measure to pass allowing Bush to remain President..."

"If the Republicans hold their current strength, or increase it, in the 2006 Congressional elections, expect this measure to pass allowing Bush to remain President..."

7. It would still require the full amendment process
2/3's of the states would have to ratify it.

I would put this way down on the list of things to worry about.

8. That would make Bill Clinton able to serve another term. I think that fea
fear of this happening will put the breaks on anything this rash happening.

9. Too many Republicans think Monkey is an idiot
If they couldn't vote against the thing because Kennyboy Mehlman would withhold the cash, they'd find ways to miss their plane, have 'emergency' surgery to remove that pesky corn, or some other excuse to avoid the vote by not showing up.

10. don't worry...
...an amendment can only be repealed the same way it was originally enacted, with the approval of two-thirds of the state's legislatures. Even if congressional Republicans pass the legislation, they still have to get the necessary approval from the states, many of which will undoubtedly prove recalcitrent to accomodate; at the very worst, the ratification/repeal process can be extended beyond 2008, which would make Junior ineligible until at least 2012. Another thing, even if they can pass the amendment by 2008, it only allows Junior to run again, and should he choose to (again, in this situation) it will rip the guts out of the GOP; it does not cancel or otherwise preclude the election per se.

14. That's my fear.
They have no respect for the Constitution, so why would they try and amend it.

25. thanks. however, I"m not sure if you're implying
something about me and freepers? surely not.
The fact is, the Bush administration has been pushing for many things that directly relate to martial law, including demanding governors give up their national guard, to already stating they have the right close down entire cities in the event of an "emergency"...etc.
I would say I have a lot more backing to my concern than the freepers did for theirs.

16. Something like this is introduced...
every couple of years. It never goes anywhere. Odd that both times i have seen a bill like this it was bi-partisan.

20. They'd need to get 2/3 House; 2/3 Senate & then 2/3 states to approve it.
Even if they go the Constitutional Convention route the approval process would take years... IF it happened at all.

21. I think it's kind of amusing --
the Republicans got the 22nd passed to prevent a repeat of FDR -- and almost immediately discovered they'd shot themselves in their collective ass because they couldn't keep the executive in Republican control for more than 8 years.

It wouldn't surprise me -- assuming that they could get the amendment repealed, which is a huge leap of imagination -- if they once again found themselves hoisted by their own petards.

that shit again!!

However, if they do...I'm on my way to Costa Rica!
