The Racism of the Right - Breadth and Depth
I guess it never ceases to amaze me just how deep and wide this is...

Following is a little gem sent to me this morning by an old high school friend who, oddly enough considering his past is now plugged into the culture of hate and greed that divines today's Republican party. Normally I just delete "humor" of this nature but considering the recent episodes around the country and what the punchline revels about right-wing sentiment I felt the ned to put it on record.

Subject: Fw: Cowboys and.... here is another good one :)

Three strangers strike up a conversation in the
airport passengerlounge in Bozeman, Montana, while
awaiting their respective flights.

> One is an American Indian passing through from
Lame Deer; another is a Cowboy on his way to Billings
for a livestock show; and the third passenger is a
fundamentalist Arab student, newly arrived at Montana
State University from the Middle East.
>
> Their discussion drifts to their diverse cultures.
Soon, the two Westerners learn that the Arab is a
devout, radical Muslim and the conversation falls into
an uneasy lull.
>
> The cowboy leans back in his chair, crosses his
boots on a magazine table and tips his big
sweat-stained hat forward over his face. The wind
outside is blowing tumbleweeds around, and the old
windsock is
slapping; but still no plane comes.
>
> Finally, the American Indian clears his throat and
softly he speaks,At one time here, my people were
many, but sadly, now we are few."
>
> The Muslim student raises an eyebrow and leans
forward, "Once my people were few," he sneers, "and
now we are many. Why do you suppose that
is?"
>
> The Texas' cowboy shifts his toothpick to one side
of his mouth and from the darkness beneath his Stetson
says in a smooth drawl.
>
> "That's 'cause we ain't played Cowboys and Muslims
yet, but I do believe it's a-comin'."

In my mind/heart what was done to the Native Americans was at least as outrageous as the Holocaust. What strikes me most about this joke is that in 2006 there are people that no only find this funny but feel compelled to share it as such.

1. I have had to stop going to
most of the "fishing" forums that I used to frequent. The reason: they are filled with hate-mongers and bigots. This type of "joke" is the norm there and much of it is much worse. You know, the "kill the ragheads" type of stuff. I am not singling out fishermen by no means, but it makes me very sad and angry that so many feel/live this way.

3. I agree, this is a racist joke and not a bit funny to me considering
....the policies of the United States government that allowed the deliberate and systematic elimination of of over 90% of the indigenous people across the American mainland for over 150 years. Estimates are wide ranging from some 8.4 million to over 112.5 million, but I tend to believe that the American holocaust of native Americans was on the higher side when one considers the methods used that included:

Depopulation from disease
War and violence
Exploitation
Massacres
Displacement and disruption
Deliberate infection

The methods have been well documented and continue to be used to this day around the world.

4. Exactly, and this glimpse into the soul of the hate-mongering Rove-ist RRW
Should be heralded to all and especially the moderates in the Republican Party. It's important that all Americans see this unapologetic culture of hate...
