Conrad Burns has done it AGAIN
link to AP story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060822/ap_on_el_se/senator_immigration

<snip>

Tue Aug 22, 6:05 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Conrad Burns (news, bio, voting record), whose re-election campaign is pressing for tighter immigration controls, referred to his house painter as "a nice little Guatemalan man" and suggested that worker as well as employees of a roofing company he hired might be in the country illegally.

"The other day, the little fella who does our maintenance work around the house, he's from Guatemala, and I said, 'Could I see your green card?'" Burns said at a June meeting recorded by Democrats. "And Hugo says, 'No.' I said, 'Oh gosh.'"

Burns spokesman Jason Klindt said the worker, Hugo Reyes, is legally in the United States, owns a painting company and the senator "never had any doubt" that Reyes is a legal resident.

"He was telling an anecdotal story about a time he took the extra step to make sure a worker was legal," Klindt said.

3. If I were to rely on appearances...
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 09:03 PM by neoblues
I'd say he's a crook by means of being a seedy, back-room deal-making politician. There's also a sense that he's damned proud of it?

Then again, no need to resort to judging by appearance... he has the word Republican by his name--that's proof enough (a kind of admission of guilt even).

4. The great thing about this guy...
...is that he's completely incapable of opening his mouth without sounding like a buffoon. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

8. Burns is a reliable alienator
We can count on him saying something really stupid on a regular basis. All he has to do is talk.

9. Anybody asked Burns for proof of his citizenship?
Some people are saying that he wasn't born in this country, and that he has a forged birth certificate. Can Conrad Burns prove that he was born in the United States?

11. Let me tell one of my old Connie Burns anecdotes again...
...which my father-in-law (who witnessed it) swears is true.

Back when Connie lived in N. Missouri, out hunting one day, he...

pissed on an electric fence!

My father-in-law is a charitable man. He always ends the anecdote by pointing out that Connie's not stupid: "he only did it once!"

12. "the LITTLE fella"??? My God, how DEMEANING!!!
He might as well have referred to the man as being part of the "Democrat Party."

It's just as demeaning, diminishing, and discounting.

I'm surprised he didn't call him a "macaca." :grr:

That's why he didn't call him the "M" word. He probably just refers to him as a dirty s**c.

19. Sorry, there's way too much competition for that award.
Burns will have to fight off challenges from Santorum, Stevens, Chambliss, Coleman, Frist, Allen, Bunning, Coburn, Sessions, Inhoff, . . . If you stop and think about it you can probably come up with several more. No, the fight for the bottom in the Senate has many contenders. And when you take a look at that list you understand why our democracy is in such deep trouble. Did I mention Roberts?

Peace and here's hoping we'll have a chance to rescue our democracy after November.

25. Thanks. I was just making a weird drive outta town and back,
and I stumbled upon the odious Lars Larson on his "national" show while trying to tune my car radio.

Lars was practically humping Burns' leg.
