Republican convention committee visits Cleveland

Wednesday and Thursday the group will tour the city and convention venues as well as review plans for transportation, hotel rooms, security and fundraising. Cleveland hopes to prove itself in these areas and earn extra credit for special touches, such as the bash at the rock hall and personal attention to the visiting committee members.

While in town, each of the site selection committee's nine members and their 13 staff and technical consultants will be paired with a personal concierge.

Plain Dealer: QUESTION OF THE DAY

Where in Cleveland would you take the Republican National Committee site-selection team?

Since the Republicans are all criminals, take them to the Justice Center and lock them up."

- Cleveland

"To the airport and the first flight out."

- Middleburg Heights

"Let me see . . .in the lake." - Painesville

"To the areas of crime and poverty to see how we live." - Cleveland

"Take them to my neighborhood on the lower West Side of Cleveland. Then they'll get to see all the abandoned and boarded-up homes. That'll be a real site for them." - Cleveland

2. Take them on the RTA Rapid Transit
Let them get a good look at the empty factory buildings and boarded up and broken windows in the houses between the airport and the Windermeer station. It's a real eye opener, ... or is that eyesore. Then take them to the casinos, ... oh you can't do that cuz we don't have any. Oh well there are any number of bingo halls around if they feel the need to gamble. There is some good music and dining downtown, but a convention crowd would overwhelm them.

3. I will say this much about a convention in your city
It does bring big bucks not only into the city but the surrounding communities.

And did you know the last 2 republican conventions were held in states that did NOT go for the republicans (Pennsylvania 2000, New York 2004). Perhaps if they have it in Cleveland they'll continue the streak :D

4. Ya, I'm originally from Cleveland....
And as bad as the last five years have been for Cleveland economically, I hope they get the GoP convention. Though I'm not sure Cleveland has the hotel or Convention space for it.

5. I hope they get it.
This city NEEDS some chaos and protest (and a Cavs championship). Heavily blue Cuyahoga County will welcome those rapture-wrongs with a steel-toed boot in the ass.

7. Ooohh that smarts
Our river hasn't burned in many years now. I still wouldn't swim in it though.
