Has anyone bought a Democracy Bond?
On Saturday, Dean mentioned buying Democracy Bonds at the DNC meeting. So I went to democracy.org to find out about them. Well, I tried to buy one, but they won't take less than $10/month! This seems kind of foolish to me.... like they are turning down a $60 donation? The hell with them.

11. I do that as well, but thought I would give a donation to the party.
If they don't want it, I'll send it to Bob Casey!

5. The DNC is building in all 50 states. DSCC and DCCC support candidates.
We strongly believe in the 50 state strategy. So we donate to the DNC. If we like other candidates we donate to them also.

9. Senate...DSCC.....House DCCC....DNC builds the party structure.
You don't have to buy that, it is the truth. Dean said they will pitch in some races, but not just to support incumbents.

They mainly do the presidential race. You need to contact Rahm at the DCCC or Chuck at the DCCC.

15. "Some" not all ...
they might be supporting people in every state but they are not supporting every candidate.

17. You are right...Rahm and Chuck get to choose...the bosses.
They have picked 3 candidates in Florida to fund that I know of...may be more. Two of their choices are suspect, and one is just wrong. These are just the cases I know about.

They decide who gets the money for their campaigns. I could point out specific cases, but it would start arguments here.

They have forced good candidates out of races for incumbents to have a clear field, for people they choose to get the backing.

It is not fair for you to criticize the DNC when it is the one trying to change the way things operate.

10. Perhaps you are confusing the DNC with the DLC...
the DNC doesn't get involved during primaries.

It is concerned with the FOUNDATIONS of the party.
It will also throw weight and money towards dems
during elections.

I support the DNC.

18. Is it a senate or house race?
Then I could tell you which group to contact. The DNC is very involved in state races..is it a state race?

4. Most sites have to set a minimum or it would be misused.
Some sites organize to break a website down by donating very small amounts until they crash it.

I think there used to be an "other", but don't know.

We both donate monthly. I think it is not an effort to turn money away as much as it is an effort to keep the site from being overwhelmed.

6. Credit card fees on donations < $10 could mean you're making
a 'donation' mostly to the credit card processing company every month...

13. Not sure about the processing fee.... but I also wondered why
they didn't take PayPal? That would make it really easy (for me) to contribute!

8. I've had a Democracy Bond since they first came out
I support Chairman Dean and the Fifty State Strategy. I also donate to stae and local candidates from time to time.

Regarding small donation amounts, our Governor Goodhair recently got some heat over the way his campaign was coding small donations. It seems that some republicans who are upset about his support for a revamped business tax were protesting by sending in checks for a few cents each.

Political campaigns routinely code contribution checks to keep track of which event or mailing inspired them.

Because the unsolicited protest checks were not tied to any specific event, "they were coded as 'A Small Supporter,' " Perry campaign spokesman Robert Black said Friday.

"In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best choice for an abbreviation," Black said.

19. Democracy Bonds, unfortuntately, are dependent on credit cards
And most of the major credit card issuers in America are heavy donors to the Republican Party. Chase, MBNA, Bank of America - all of these companies are firmly red. Citibank isn't as red as the other guys, but they are Saudi-owned, and guess who the Saudis are in bed with? You got it - the Bush family.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't own or use a credit card, even one issued by a GOP-leaning bank. But if we're going to send money to the DNC, let's do it the right way.
