MARY LYON FROM THE LEFT: Snakes on a Brain
by Mary Lyon -- World News Trust

I've never had to wait for a buzzed-about movie opening to express various levels of disgust at the forked tongue of the present occupant of the Oval Office. But it has taken til the arrival of the latest cultural phenomenon to give me a clever title I can milk. So bring 'em on!

George, George, George. Your continuously moronic, disgraceful verbiage, and what that says about you, AND your intellect, have combined to leave me smacking my head in disbelief. Again. So many times in the last six years or so, that by the time we're finally rid of you, I doubt I'll even HAVE a forehead anymore, period.

I just can't believe this guy.

QUESTION: Mr. President, in a Federal ruling yesterday that declared your "terrorists surveillance program" unconstitutional, the judge wrote that it was never the intent of the framers to give the president such unfettered control. How do you respond, sir, to opponents who say that this ruling is really the first nail in the coffin of your administration's legal strategy in the war on terror?

BUSH: I would say that those who herald this decision simply do not understand the nature of the world in which we live. You might remember, last week, working with the people in Great Britain, we disabled a plot -- people trying to come and kill -- kill people. The... this country of ours is at war and we must give those who are... whose responsibility it is to protect the United States, the tools necessary to protect this country in a time of war. The judge's decision was a... I strongly disagree with that decision. Strongly disagree. That's why I've instructed the Justice Department to appeal immediately and I believe out appeals will be upheld. We... I made my position clear about this war on terror and I... by the way, the enemy made their position clear, yet again, when they... when we are able to stop them. And the American people expect us to protect them and, therefore, I put this program in place. We believe, strongly believe, it's Constitutional. And if Al Qaeda is calling into the United States, we want to know why they're calling. And, so, I made my position clear. It will be interesting to see what other policy makers... how other policy makers react. Listen, thank y'all very much.

9. Yeah, me too! I keep wondering when I'm gonna wake up from
this absolute nightmare.

Once upon a time, America prided itself on presidents who were the sharpest knives in the drawer. Now, we've come to such a dumbed-down point that what we want in a president is some jerk who'd be fun to go have a beer with.

Jon Bon Jovi told Larry King the other night that he didn't want a president he could go have a beer with. He wanted someone of whom he was in awe. He wanted to be awe-struck by the brains and wisdom and intellect of his president. So do I. Besides, I know LOTS of people who'd be fun to go have a beer with. That does NOT mean a single one of these people, as nice or fun as he/she is, is equipped to be President of the United States.

5. I disagree. Boobs are nice to play with and look at.
They are good for (as opposed to dangerous to) young children. Boobs are life sustaining and fun.

I have to disagree. Bush is the opposite of a boob.

I'd say he's just a dick but dicks can also be life-sustaining (in a larger sense) and fun.

And I won't call him a big dick, either, because I have no intention of flattering the schmuck.

20. He's slipping - farther than ever.
I bet the next round of polls will prove that. The latest USA Today/Gallup poll is up, but I'm betting it'll drop again because of all the Katrina anniversary coverage we're gonna start seeing in the next few days. People will be reminded of just what an inexcusable incompetent he is. It may blip back up as the 9/11 anniversary orgy hits the airwaves, but I suspect that, too, will be temporary. And of course, Iraq is just gonna magically heal overnight, now, isn't it?

25. Wonder if there gonna try a repeat of the 'Freedom March'
...remember the Great American Sheep Drive America supports your Freedom Walk?
You had to register to partipate, there were armed guards all along the way...Freedom, baby, YEAH!
Was supposed to attract THOUSANDS...and they had to chivvy civil servants and families out to have some kind of showing...and the whole thing was over in about an hour and a half.

The photos showed people walking a l l s p r e a d o u t so they'd cover more space...
IIRC, there was almost NO coverage of this on CNN (no TV here, ex-Sig Other was telling me about it).

26. Just keep an eye out for the carefully cropped photos.
Did I ever mention here (uh, maybe I did, once, come to think of it) this friend I had who'd worked on the Younger/Curb campaign when Evelle Younger was running for California governor against Jerry Brown? This guy worked on the - shall we say - Curb-side of the campaign. They had a rally for Mike Curb on the beach somewhere. There was a long, somewhat straggly trail of followers and fans behind him, but it was about an inch wide. But he cropped the photo so as to show only what you could see straight back behind Mike Curb, and it made him look like this Pied Piper-type guy with this never-ending parade of followers behind him.

It ended up with Jerry Brown defeating Evelle Younger, but Mike Curb won as lieutenant governor, proving to be a major thorn in Brown's side for the duration of the term. Curb was, of course, one of the bad guys. And, frankly, it wasn't just this little photo-cropping incident that helped him win, but many different approaches along the same lines that wound up having a positive cumulative impact. This friend of mine had "studied" under Lyn Nofziger, one of Reagan's backroom buddies - the type who knew a few things about media manipulation, and paved the way for other even worse bad guys like lee atwater and ultimately, our pal kkkarl.

Let us LEARN from all of this, and turn it to OUR advantage.

23. Well, what I recognized was a transcript of a very addled response at
a pResidential press conference, and more. But if you split hairs, I would say, it is entirely reasonable to sniff around and smell the stench of kkkarl rove. All roads seem to lead to him, one way or another, directly or indirectly. Anywhere bush is, rove isn't far behind. Literally or figuratively. They are joined at the hip. A two-headed monster. They learned their dirty tricks together at lee atwater's knee. He was the ultimate republi-CON bad-ass in the heyday of bush's dad, and george-and-karl, politically, constitute sort of a siamese twin son of his.

I don't disagree with you. Just as if there's smoke, there's fire, if there's george bush, there's kkkarl rove.

Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 09:07 PM by ClassWarrior
Seems a Minnesota peace group has found a little-known clause in the Constitution that allows ordinary citizens to file articles of IMPEACHMENT themselves. I've done it. You should too. Go here for step-by-step instructions, downloadable forms, etc.:

http://impeachforpeace.org/ImpeachNow.html

Visualize. Then DO.

33. Too bad we can't recommend individual posts.
This one alone is a must-read.

Not simply a post. A public service!

I knew individual communities could exercise this authority, in the event Congress balks. I didn't know we citizens had that option also. Cool!

"Another fine mess he's gotten us into..." Yeah? :hi:

Great article, and it *does* help to have words like this to let us know we're not alone, and to help us to formulate just what is it we're disgusted with! There's so much, it's hard to keep track... :)

It's also helpful to know that we're not alone in appreciating intellect!

Here's to your considerable intellect! :toast:
