Sex Offender Law Arrests Begin

http://www.11alive.com/news/printarticle.aspx?storyid=83641

ATLANTA (AP) -- Sheriffs in the Atlanta area have begun ordering sex offenders who live within about a fifth of a mile of a church to move or face arrest.

In Cobb County, four registered sex offenders had been arrested under the provision of a new state law as of late last week, authorities said.

Hall County deputies had arrested five.

And in Gwinnett County, deputies had told six offenders to move because they were too close to churches and arrested one who didn't comply.

I knew they were restricting schools, but didn't know that churches needed special protection.

1. I don't get it.
Why can't a sex offender live near a church?

I understand the concern about living near schools, schoolbus stops, and day care centers.

But a church?

2. Shouldn't they be trying to SAVE these people from the
eternal damnation of their proclivity? Seems the closer to a church a perv lives, the better a chance to be redeemed.... no?

3. Kind of unfair.
Given that there's such a huge population of sex offenders, both detected and not, who are proponents of and servants in those churches, maybe that's the ideal place for them.
