CNN's latest poll: 51% see Bush as "strong leader," 54% say he's dishonest
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Opposition among Americans to the war in Iraq has reached a new high, with only about a third of respondents saying they favor it, according to a poll released Monday.

Just 35 percent of 1,033 adults polled say they favor the war in Iraq; 61 percent say they oppose it -- the highest opposition noted in any CNN poll since the conflict began more than three years ago. Despite the rising opposition to the war, President Bush said the U.S. will not withdraw from Iraq while he is president.

"In this case, it would give the terrorists and extremists an additional tool besides safe haven, and that is revenues from oil sales," the president said. "Leaving before the job is done would be a disaster," he said.

A bare majority (51 percent) say they see Bush as a strong leader, but on most other attributes he gets negative marks. Most Americans (54 percent) don't consider him honest, most (54 percent) don't think he shares their values and most (58 percent) say he does not inspire confidence.

1. So? Bush is strong leader who needs to lie a lot
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 09:25 AM by kenny blankenship
Nothing unprecedented in that: history knows of several such figures....For example there was Adolf Hitler. Hitler lied a great deal to the world and to his own people, he even proclaimed the necessity of lying to the German people in order to lead them and theorized that they would accept large lies more readily than small ones because they were so used to telling small lies themselves. Hitler was indisputably a strong leader, admired by his people as a strong leader and feared throughout the world. Much the same could be said for Josef Stalin and his leadership of the Russian people.

There are currently over 51x106 google entries for Adolf Hitler, and 22x106 for Stalin. If Bush is also a strong leader and he also lies every time he opens his mouth I'd say that he is putting himself in some pretty famous company.

2. They're doing it again. Producing fake pre-election polls pushing
numbers at nearly 50% so that when they steal elections it's plausible. These people will never stop. CNN is one of the worst, I think they might even be worse than Faux.

6. 58 % say he does not inspire confidence,
but 51% say he's a strong leader?? How can a strong leader not be expected to inspire confidence? I would've thought that would be the top criteria for strong leadership...Go figure! SG

7. Maybe they thought they heard "strong liar."
He certainly is that. Not a gifted liar, but strongly inclined to lie.

14. With impunity & apparent
immunity. How anybody can watch his excruciating "press conferences" and not perceive that he's lying through his teeth, I don't understand. His body language, voice tone and eye contact are manifestly those of a lying 10-year-old caught masturbating in the bathroom by his mother. SG

8. The "strong leader" stat means nothing...
...Hitler was a strong leader. You can be a strong leader and be hated. Your leadership skills may be strong, but if they pull the country down a swirling vortex of hell--then the question really is moot.

CNN is cherry-picking positive information. It's almost as if they asked the "strong leader" question, because they knew it would bode well for Junior. The next question to ask would be, "Do you think the pResident's leadership is taking us in the right direction?" That's the question that would reflect his unpopularity, because the majority say "NO" in every poll.

Fifty-four percent don't find him honest. That also speaks volumes.

Yes, the man can put on the constipated cowboy face and convince SOME that he's a "strong leader." However, most of America--as indicated by every major poll--do not approve of this president.

16. Exactly. Saddam Hussein would also have been considered a
strong leader. It's the 54% number that's more relevant.

11. You Know, It's Weird, . . .
It seemed that for a while, there was very little word on *'s poll numbers. A definite lull. Now I'm reading some horseshit about his numbers low, but improving? WTF? I fucking think KKKarl just puts out some fake goddamn polls in a lame-ass attempt to make the chimperor look good.

Thanks for letting me rant.

17. So 46% of Americans think he is honest???
And you still have faith in Americans?

They're as dumb as he is !

As the same questions to the rest of the world and the response would be somewhere in the 90% that think Bush is dishonest !

18. My GOD they're generous with him...
"Americans are about evenly split on whether their commander-in-chief understands complex issues, with 47 percent saying yes, and 51 percent saying no."

"...about evenly split"?

47 - 51? I would call that a slim majority.
