I guess "tough talking" McCain was surprised when Brown talked tough right back. BTW, the Dems "Turnaround Ohio" Tour of rural Ohio has really shaken up the GOP - Dems are drawing large crowds, many GOP voters...
"With war hero and tough-talking Arizona Sen. John McCain at his shoulder, U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine framed his battle for re-election today as one about the security of the nation.
Citing rival Sherrod Brown’s opposition as a congressman to the U.S.A. Patriot Act, passed after Sept. 11 to give the government broad powers to investigate suspected terrorists, DeWine complained that his opponent lacks the commitment to defend the country.

As for the security issues, Brown says he “takes a back seat to no one” on protecting the homeland, pointing to his calls for more money for port security and body armor for American troops.
This past weekend, he again charged that DeWine as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee paid little attention to weapons of mass destruction and the needs of soldiers and failed to ask “tough questions” of Bush.
